hello,

i have a 1981 king cab 5 speed 2wd that appears to be leaking transmission fluid from the rear drive shaft seal and where the speedometer cable hooks up to. does anybody know the part numbers for these seals? i am having some trouble finding them.

Speedo drive has 1 "O" ring and 1 Interior seal, still available thru the dealers.

The rear oils seal is a very common part and used on lots of transmissions..... 32136-U0100 (even used on the 510)

*Unlikely the speedometer sleeve O ring seal but they are only a buck..... 32710-14600 (also used on the 510)

Try unscrewing the speedo cable and use plumbers teflon tape on the threads.

* Raise from the rear so oil runs to the front. Or drain a quart out. (trust me)

Take the old O ring in and have them match it up. Auto parts stores have thousands of O rings in special trays. I doubt it's the O ring, probably ran down from the rear seal or the top vent tube. Grease the new one so it doesn't tear sliding it in.

Mike,

i went ahead and ordered the entire speedometer gear like the one in your last picture because it was only $21. however, looking inside it i see no o-ring. is this normal? the part number is 32702-58S18

There's the o ring on the outside but the seal on the inside isn't an O ring. It looks like a sleeve of some sort. Damn, I had a couple of sleeves apart this last fall and never bothered to look inside. Just pulled the plastic gear on the spindle out.

another update Mike. i replaced the speedometer gear and no more leaks! i did take apart the old gear and found no o-ring whatsoever. i didn't take apart the new one to compare though. thanks for the help.
