Rollingstoned916
Would I have to upgrade my brakes on ny 76 pickup if I do a ka24de swap?? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Not really... the 620 did have 4 X10 inch drums, a lot of stopping power for a little truck. It's built to stop a truck with 1,000 pound loads. However the problem with drum brakes is they need constant attention in the form of adjustment. If you aren't on top of this they wander or pull to one side. There are several conversions using fairly easy to source calipers and rotors and an adapter made by several of our members. Type '620 disc brake conversions' into the search function and start reading. Ask any questions after. Just so you know there are no bolt on ones for the '77 and older trucks. They have to be converted.. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
The only problem with keeping the drum brakes is that they must be maintained. Keep them adjusted at every oil change and you should have no problems stopping. Quote Link to comment
Rollingstoned916
Thanks guys I've been considering on getting a ka24de swap done to my truck but I'm still unsure, should I stick with the l20b and get it rebuilt or go for a ka? Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
i'm more partial to L motors myself. both motors look nice and right at home in the engine bay. it's all about personal preference and if you have the time money and space to do the engine swap. do some research, price some things, see if you can get ahold of everything. make sure you have the space and will follow all the way through before starting the swap. it's really a well documented swap and redeye makes mounts for the ka Quote Link to comment
