the510keeper
Had to take a break on the 4 door thing, even though I have been driving my 4 door. Started working on a 2 door. Bought it months ago, thought quick flip, cars in Idaho sell for a little more in Norcal. At least enough to cover expenses of picking the shit box up. I just wish people took better pics when selling their Datsuns. Some of you might remember it from C/L, Probably should of taken the loss. But I'm a sucker. Figured I would put my new helper on it and if it didn't turn out perfect it would not matter. After the disassembly and 1st floor pan he moved and had to quit. On a positive note it runs better then most the dimes in my driveway. Looking at a swede paint job new rubber kit, carpet kit complete dash rebuild, get rid of the fucked roll bar, rear seat new headliner, new door cards, coilovers, some much needed body work, burn the fender mirrors, and check out everything make sure there are not any really bad issues 2 Quote Link to comment
the510keeper
Sanding 20 coats of paint smooth has begun. No taking it to bare metal. Sexy roll bar out FREE come and get it (roll bar that is) Ass panel gone 5 Quote Link to comment

the510keeper
Wanted to get the floors done 1st, not the worst but not the best, 3 full pans and one small patch. Once you start wire wheeling you find that good floor is just ok. I usually do 1 floor pan at a time. I never cut all the pans out then get started on welding. tranny tunnel fix This is the cloud while cleaning rust and paint off 4 Quote Link to comment
the510keeper
Been waiting to get back to the 68, but figured im this far so why not finish this phase and share. Not a ton of time into this once I got in the mood. Right now it is just me, actually works out pretty well this way. Zero rust again Inner fenders and coilovers NEXT 3 Quote Link to comment
the510keeper
Look closely protect ur fuel lines and break lines when welding and cutting, I use an old door skin and wet rags. No boom boom 3 Quote Link to comment
S30Jay
Good call on not going shiny on this, would take a lot to make that look straight with clear. Quote Link to comment

hobbes_the_cat
Gumby!!! So stoked you ended up with this car. There is a ton of back story and history with this thing. PM me for details that are not in the thread. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/57641-the-harlequin-510-aka-gumby/?fromsearch=1 1 Quote Link to comment
the510keeper
The body is badddd. However I know a guy that knows a guy. Really could use a right rocker and a right quarter. Everything that you can bolt on looks to be solid, the roof, now the floors are solid. Undecided what I'm going to do with the trunk don't know that I want to get deep enough into it. It has a shallow spare tire well. People seem to more interested n looks. Figured I'll put my time in to that. Runs great, that's what I don't do so seems like a good candidate for body and paint. 1 Quote Link to comment
the510keeper
As far as color goes might do a bambo tan swede. However u never know someone with money may come along and change that. Definitely going to Todd for headliner, rear seat and dash pad. Not sure of wheels looking for a complete change from what it was to what is going to be. Started the inner fenders and most the tierods and ball joints look newer. A set of coilovers with new inserts and T3 camber plates looks like a good idea. 2 Quote Link to comment
hobbes_the_cat
Yeah you ain't kidding that thing has been through a lot but it's fun to drive. Whoever built that engine knew what they were doing. Quote Link to comment
S30Jay
If anyone can make it a winner its you. That car is lucky it ended up in Datsunville. Also +1 on bamboo suade, bamboo tan is a great color for a 510. 521 also. Quote Link to comment
the510keeper
70 degrees and a little time, got some more work done :) Scraped and wire brushed and for got the pic Ball joints and tierods look great 3 Quote Link to comment
the510keeper
Coilover time New inserts, modded struts, and T3 camber plates FUCK Decided to add new bushings and change out the T/C rod urethane bushing for rubber and urethane. If ya didn't now urethane T/C rods bushing break T/C rods. Raining badly here so it was all I could do to get it in the shop. New helper Frank got a lesson in grinding and dent removal and filler work Not as bad as it looked with 10 coats of fucked up paint on it Took 90% of the old filler paint off with a Dewalt 7inch electric grinder, then cleaned that up with 5 inch air grinder. The whole booth had a confetti of paint dust everywhere. Booth is narrow but if you look close you can see the difference with the 7inch ad the air grinders. the front portion has been air grinder Quote Link to comment
the510keeper
Next step, Dav dropped by so I put him to work. Dav has a NL320 at the shop so he helps out to store his truck and use the shop to work on his truck, how exciting. This trunk has bugged me since day one and has rust in the bottom area, so figured we would remove it. by by cockca inner areas are not rotted out, and look good Spare tire well Dav making adjustments Ran out of welding gas, next step finish welding and install taillight panel Thanks Dav 4 Quote Link to comment

Dolomite
Can't wait to finish that left side, that low spot is still bugging me. At least I made it home this time with mostly no incident. I did find out I need to do floor pans more than I originally thought, somewhere outside Auburn I hit a deep assed puddle and got my balls flooded with icewater, no rogue deer though. 4 Quote Link to comment
the510keeper
On with it I say. detaching the tailpanel and found rust lots of rust mostly on the edges other side is good Poop Then detached these from the og panel, helper didn't know where to cut and I was busy that day, not a big deal. I would update more but no internet at home, and coffee shop internet sometimes sucks 1 Quote Link to comment
S30Jay
Wow you are really into this thing now. It'll end up looking better than it has in a long time after all this. Is it growing on you yet? Quote Link to comment
