redhead
I purchase Datsun 720 King Cab 4x4 off craigslist for $300 dollars because I wanted a wheelin truck. I have never done any vechile project in my life which makes the first and something I always wanted to do. This project was started back in December of 2013 and took me about a year to get it mostly completed. I wanted to show some things I have done and just been to busy to post this project as I built it. The truck came with L20b engine and 5 speed tranny in it but the engine wont start and had bad compression when I tested the cylinders. Decide to pull the motor and swap in another one from a donor truck that was purchased for $500 bucks. The donor truck was Nissan 720 84 or 85 I don't remimber but it has z24i motor and 5 speed tranny that was swap into the Datsun. Datsun rear axle was shot and missing rear driveline. I swap out the axle and found a driveline in the local junk yard to make the thing driveable. What the truck look like when i bought it home. Here what it looks like now and still dont have a current picture but will try to get one soon but you get the idea. 2 Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
That's really good looking rig, why did they butcher the hood? 1 Quote Link to comment

Lockleaf
So did you install the fuel injection with the z24i? Or carb it? And what style lift did you put on it? 1 Quote Link to comment
redhead
They butcher hood so that it would close with the radiator that was hill billy put in the truck. The motor had a stock carb on it and I swap it out. Here what it look shock like. With the Weber The lift is home made out of some UHMW 2" by 3' round rod of this stuff on amazon for about $33.58 with free shipping on prime. :) here a link to the stuff -- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FKJGSRK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 2 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Then it's just a z24. Z24i was specifically the throttle body fuel injected version. So it's a body lift, not a suspension lift then? 1 Quote Link to comment

720driver97
What size tires do you have on there? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Cosmetic variations in the 720 hoods (vents, louvers, washer spray nozzles) but they should all interchange. 1 Quote Link to comment
poopypants720
That lift is namely tires... Dunno how you manage it though, any upwards travel at all and they will eat your fenders alive. So just 3" on the body lift? Thanks for the link on the polyurethane material... Was going to go looking for some soon to increase my lift from 2"->3" and get some new material in there... Just not spending $80+ for a premade kit... Do, how big ARE those tires? 35 or 37? 1 Quote Link to comment
redhead
What size tires do you have on there? The tires are 35" not really what I wanted but I got a good deal on them and figure I would just go with it. Cosmetic variations in the 720 hoods (vents, louvers, washer spray nozzles) but they should all interchange. Good information pick up a hood but haven't had the time to change it out yet. There is some rubbing with the 35" on there but manly from hitting bumps going to fast and trying to make tight cornering. I did just 3" on the body lift cause I started to run into 4x4 shifter and stick getting shorter lol. I was in the same boat as you not wanting to pay big money for something that was easy to make. 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The gearing is going to be terrible with 35" rubber. The '82 had only 4.375 ratio. That's down to about 3.18 with that diameter tire. The '81/'82 Long bed 4x4s had 4.625 differentials but even that wouldn't be enough improvement. To get back to the same performance and crawl ratio as the 4.375s you need a 6.00 set of front and rear differential gears. 1 Quote Link to comment
redhead
Ya had to replace the original axle because it had hole in the pumpkin when I got it. I just swap in CA41 at the time. I just wanted an axle to see the truck move. It's a little slow for just about everything but what can i say with 35". It funny how many looks I get driving the around town with those tires on it. 1 Quote Link to comment
