Has anyone made custom steering knuckles to adjust ackerman angle?

Further down the rabbit hole we go!  Our end goal is to have a bolt in crossmember for rack and pinion.  Like everything suspension there is no simple answer.  The rack has less travel than the steering box and the last thing we want is less steering angle for the same steering input.  This will require a custom steering knuckle, which isn't bad but it gives us the  opportunity to adjust things.  The stock steering knuckle has less than the standard 100% steering angle you would expect.  Although we've only checked it with the rack installed.  Maybe with the steering box since it "sweeps" may account for some of the missing ackerman we were expecting.  Really we are just wondering if anyone has as built their own steering knuckles to adjust things.

Jeff I was looking at this a while back and had given up with lack of interest.

I have a basic Solid model of factory arm angles and hole positions but never stretched beyond to CNC work.

I asked around and some guys pointed me in the direction of inserts with each having different hole positions to find a perfect angle. The end of the arm having a long slot where the drag link connects.

Have you compared the shorter 280ZX knuckles to see if they would give you what you want?

I was thinking about those but we are talking about removing around an inch or even a little more to get the proper lock to lock.  So we are going to have to make custom ones.

Shorter length would increase the steering effort. Less turn of the steering wheel and more turn of the wheel.

Sorter arms combined with less throw in the rack is the problem.  it takes 3 turns on either a 510 box of the MR2 rack but the travel is less on the rack.  Thats the issue.  Just to get back to where we started we need shorter arms.

Would the greater turn in on the outer wheel stay the same?

I imagine so since you are just changing leverage diameter.

interesting idea!!  Yeah arckerman is kinda black magic, seems there is no correct answer.  I'll have to look into the slot idea.  thanks!

Begs the question, why would you want to change what's already built into the 510?

I just want the black inserts from the photo in the earlier post.  I think speedway used to make them but i cant remember what they are called to look it up.
