510 goon speaker box that doesn't suck.

Okay. I've been putting this off for years now. I kept thinking I'd cad up the plans and put them up proper. But really, what I'm doing might lead to increased creativity. The following pictures are of a speaker box I had in my goon for years. It was incredibly nice to have. I didn't want to sacrifice cargo area, but I needed it to sound decent. The following are my sketches leading up to construction. It fits very well. I have more detailed drawing that will be posted if I find them. Aside from that, here's the idea with some help to get there.

Also, a similar box was planned for the opposite side for symmetry. That side was going to be a box with a lid. I thought about insulating it for a cooler, but it was tiny. The fuel line and vapor stuff meant it was not going into the space behind the card. It was just a slim box on the side for symmetry and wench straps, oil, jack, tools, spare L- block, etc. I never built it. But the tie downs I used are crap, I love having them, but I really need better ones that don't rattle. They are fine if I leave a bungee on them.

Details on mine:

Wood-MDF,3/4",

Carpet exterior glued on

Interior stuffed with fiber

Rear fender dynamited for rattle

Glue and screw so it's airtight

10" sub capacity (most big 10's)

Sealed enclosure.

Bolted to the deck on rubber mounts

Door card saved. Just cut something else for the last ten inches.

*You need to be experianced with mitre cuts to get this right. Lots of angles. That's why I made a cardboard version first.

I think this is a great idea as well. I was thinking of Forgoing all the math, and just laying fiberglass down for around the wheel well. This would also maximize interior space.

Absolutely! Fiberglass would make best use of space. And just generally be a better approach. I'm a wood guy, so I went with what I knew. I also think audiophiles prefer wood... But that's not why I did it.
