jtheshowstoppper
So this is what was connected to alternator. Both wires look white. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Post #17 You may have to find the other ends that were cut off on the engine harness. Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Those wires should go from the alternator into a trunk of wires that travels straight across from the engine to the passenger side above the oil filter and connects to some large connectors behind the battery tray. Check there to find your wires or a disconnected connector. Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
These 2 wires were connected to the bolt on back of alternator. The white/blue wire was just hanging there and the white wire was connected to the negative post of battery not sure why lol Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
Need to figure out my high idle now Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
High idle can be caused by several things but the most obvious right now is.... High idle is a direct result of a non charging alternator. The choke heater relay needs a charging alternator in order to work. No choke heater... the choke never fully warms up and doesn't shut off. Part of the choke system is a fast idle No charge... no choke heater relay.... no choke heater ... choke (and fast idle) do not shut off. Now you can wire around the relay and supply power directly to the choke heater so it does warm up and shut off, by connecting the Blue heater wire to the Red idle cut solenoid wire. jtheshowstoppper
Doing that bypasses the relay? Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
So the wire that charges the battery on the alternator is it 2 wires Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
No. There is a ground wire bolted on the case. (probably a large Black) A charge wire on an insulated post. (large White) A two wire plastic plug. One of these is the sense wire (small White) that helps 'jump start' the alternator to get it charging. The other (small White/Blue stripe) goes to the red CHARGE light in the dash. Ya know a picture would sure help. Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
Does anyone have a pic lol Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well not of YOUR alternator. It may not even be the correct alternator for the '84. Maybe this is why it's wired so strangely.... Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
Didn't the 84 use a t plug Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yes it did and Hitachi alternators were used on Toyotas and Mazdas and any number of makers vehicles. You see this thing has been messed with for some reason that makes little sense. If it was replaced, everything should just connect up. Why was it re-wired? 1 Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
By chance does anyone have pics of the wires on their alternator 1 Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
That's what we don know that's how it bought from some kid. The white wires in thay pic were bolted to back of alternator no other wires were connected to it. The white and white/blue wire were just hanging around engine bay. This was a kids project who got frustrated with it then let it sit. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Ha ha ha I can see why. PO (previous owners) are why ratsun was invented. They do the crazyiest shit to their cars then sell 'cause they can't get it running. Does the plug in your picture above look like the white plastic plug in the picture below with the spade terminals in a T shape???? 1 Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
No actual the end that has the plug on it was plugged into harness behind battery and the wire end was bolted to alternator. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Need picture of the alternator. Specially where these wires go. 1 Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
I'll try and take a pic as clear as I can. When I jump truck and check power where those wires plugged into. They were showing 13.7 plus volts 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
We always assume if you have a 720 then you have a 720 alternator. Your description doesn't jive so it became very confusing. Pictures always help and something out of the ordinary or 'non stock' sometimes sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm thinking someone may have used some other alternator. A stock one would have just plugged right in. 1 Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
I understand. My buddy ordered me the t plug I just want everything right 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If someone replaced your alternator it would have just plugged in. Need picture of it to confirm. 1 Quote Link to comment
