jtheshowstoppper
So my grandfather gave me a 84 king cab and noticed it wasn't charging. Took a look at the alternator and noticed it was missing a T shaped plug I can't find it anywhere I'm not sure if the plug was cut off or what but does anyone have pics or the which wires go to the alternator 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
No reason to cut it off when easier to just unplug... well if there was a reason to not have the plug in. Maybe it's been taped up to the harness? If cut off you should be seeing the wire ends...They are a White/Blue stripe and a White. 1 Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
I'm not sure my grandpa bought it off some kids there's wires everywhere 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
There is a thick bundle of wiring that comes from behind the battery straight over to the engine. The alternator wiring would be in that as well as water temp sensor, oil pressure sensor, and starter wiring, possibly other things. You might need to pull that whole bundle apart and dig in to it. 1 Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
Well all gauges work except the temp 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
I just meant look in that bundle for your missing wiring. If temp gauge doesn't work, it's possible that the connector was knocked off the sensor while the alternator was being messed with. The sensor is not far behind the alternator. 1 Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
Happen to know color of wire for temp 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
There are two temp sensors next to one another. Single wire, for gauge, is white w/ blue. The other sensor is two wire, yellow w/ blue and yellow w/green. I was mistaken, they are above the alternator not behind it. The sensors are under the upper radiator house/thermostat housing. 1 Quote Link to comment

jtheshowstoppper
Just figured what they did they cut the plug off and crimped a lug to it and bolted it to alternator Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Technically it may have worked but this isn't how it was designed to work. Separate them and buy a pair of spade connectors. The plug has two wires with terminals arranged in a T. The White goes to the top, the White/Blue stripe goes to the vertical part of the T. Does your red charge lamp work? Key on not started? Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
does it look like a stock alternator? the T connector one wire powers the windings and the other is the sense. maybe someone put a GM 1 wire ALT in there I just don't know. Or maybe a self exciting type but I think you would still want the sense wire if possible Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
Im.going to store now to buy some spade connectors. I would have to jump it every time Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Does the red charge light come on? Key ON not started? Is it on when running??? Quote Link to comment
jtheshowstoppper
No light at all. Only time it actual charged was when I ran a jumper wire 1 Quote Link to comment
