32/36

Hey guys so I'm having an issue running a 32/36 where every time the car heats up for just s little bit, the butterfly's seem to go soft or won't spring back so I figured it was my carburetor and after purchasing a new one, I realized it was not. I'm not sure what the problem is but the butterfly's don't seem to close but then after the car is off and cools, they become resistant again. I've heard it could be from water in the manifold but I have no idea how that would happen in the first place. Any advice would help. Thanks for your time!:)

If you loosen the throttle shaft nut that holds the linkage, does it spring back? A common mistake when swapping from the supplied linkage to the Datsun linkage is getting the washers/spacers wrong on the throttle shaft.

Is it cable or shaft type linkage?

Other common problems are the linkage return spring on the firewall not being the right length/tension or binding in the general area of the shaft pivot..

I've inspected all the linkage and it all works fine and returns as should with good resistance. Every carb I seem to put on there, eventually the flange goes soft and stops resisting back to place. It's actually on an old celica but I figured it's all the same. The linkage doesn't seem to be the problem so I'm not quite sure.

I know YOU know what you mean but the description makes little sense to me.

First is there really a problem??? What happens when "the butterfly's seem to go soft or won't spring back" does the car drive differently? Can you drive the car?

Is this what you're talking about???

Choke butterfly? If electric choke, that would have some resistance cold, and softer warm, is that what I read? Does the vehicle not run correctly? Or are you just pushing it open and trying to find something wrong?!?

the car won't idle once the butterfly loses resistance.

no. I'll try to snap a picture when I have a chance but the butterfly remains completely vertical through idle or when I'm throttling. The car won't idle once it reaches that point.
