Engine rebuild time

WPL411

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I have a 1967 WPL411 that has been in the family from new, about 300,000 miles on it now. It is now well past time for the 2nd rebuild of the J13. When I did this the last time, in the early 1980's, parts were pretty easy to come by. Now it seems like there is not much available. It is going to need pretty much everything. Any suggestions on parts suppliers? Is it possible to bore it out in put J15 bits in?

Thanks!

The J15 is just a bored J13 with wider pistons. There were also J16 (probably not available or do able on a J13 block) and a J18 used in the Mexican market.

I just looked but couldn't find it, but there was a recent post about a 411 J13 build. Try the search function and look through the 411 and the 520/L521 forums for info. Also look in Project Datto, I'm sure there will be info there also.

Welcome to Ratsun. Please post pictures of your 411.

Keep in mind that the British A-Series engine of the early 60's was the daddy of the early Datsun (late 50's - early 60's) engines. Some of the parts are interchangable. Here is some good info that you might make use of:

Hi All,

Got the list of parts I need to at least get a good start on the rebuild.

Going to need

Oversized pistons and rings (1.00mm/.040")

camshaft bearings (standard size)

a full gasket set

a set of exhaust valves (or at least 2 good ones)

Timing chain and tensioner.

Thanks
