Crytek89
Following, I plan on rebuilding a DET to swap in my 720 as well. Excited to see someone else doing it at the same time! Best advise I can give at this current point in time, is when you search for your donor KA - seek out the best one you can. They're plentiful (at least here) and I ended up with 1 bad KA and 1 half-decent KA. Machining is going to be your biggest cost by far. Thus far I've done the following: -Re-surface block/head -Polish Crank -Re-bored block -Jet wash head/timing chain covers -Hot tank block -Valve Job and re-surface the shims on the valve lifters In total I'm probably around the two grand mark on machining alone. 1 Quote Link to comment
Rhino13
In total I'm probably around the two grand mark on machining alone. Damn that's a lot! You could've gotten a fully rebuilt motor for less than that... ka's are plentiful here too, but my first one was also bad. Decided to switch directions and go lz22 before I found another. One day I'll have a carbed ka though! 1 Quote Link to comment

Haha yeah, looking back I'd do some things different.. on the bright side I know exactly how everything works.. which will be handy for the KA given it's record 2 Quote Link to comment
BearForceOne
There's a whole DET engine+trans from a 240SX for sale near me for $500, it has low compression on a cylinder and will probably be rebuilt anyways, but comes with a bunch of upgraded stuff like bigger injectors and a Nistune ECU. It's the only one for sale near me unfortunately, otherwise I pull a 12 valve KA24E out of a 93 hardbody at the local scrapyard and build that into a turbo engine 1 Quote Link to comment
Crytek89
If it comes with the turbo it's not bad of a price. See if you can find out if the turbo has been rebuilt at all though, otherwise you'll be shopping for a new one. 1 Quote Link to comment

Lockleaf
Wiring is easy. Buy Can/Am wiring box from member Icehouse, connect 4 wires. Done. 1 Quote Link to comment

Im interested in a KA swap myself but very unsure if im smart enough to rewire. Lol Haha, don't worry, I will. Still have a bit to go. I think I'm going to order my ARP head studs on Friday - probably going to order a Borla exhaust as well at the same time and do a cat-back with dual tips out the back. Updates to come soon! Oh, flywheel is also installed now - had it get it machined. 1 Quote Link to comment

Crytek89
Alright little bit of an update: Just ordered my Borla 2.5in muffler - gonna have my friend weld it up for beginning of October when it arrives. Probably going to order my clutch as well this week and possibly the fuel pump. October 15th I'll be ordering my Radiator and having the custom CAI fabbed up and purchasing the wiring accessories then it's swap time! Other ideas I have following the swap are purchasing some new shocks: http://amzn.to/2cCu6nR http://amzn.to/2cbF5nS I also happened to come across a "big brake" upgrade that'll fit onto the 720: https://www.r1concepts.com/listing/search/1985/Nissan/720/SubModel and finally.. because it's Nissan - drop spindles/lowering blocks. But we'll get to the rest of the stuff after the swap. Edit: also been a while since an update - moved to another city in the middle of August Edited September 16, 2016 by Crytek89 2 Quote Link to comment

Crytek89
How did your oil pan turn out? Haven't quite got around to the oil pan issue just yet.. I'll be looking around in the next couple weeks at wrecking yards to see if I can dig up a D22 with the KA24DE - 1997-1999 and use that. Otherwise we'll be having fun doing some mock-ups. Update btw, Borla muffler finally arrived. 1 Quote Link to comment
Crytek89
Found a D21 single cam KA for my oil pan! 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Car and truck KA24E oil pans use the same gasket and bolt pattern BUT the car is deeper to clear crank girdle and is front sump. The D-21 pan is rear sump and shallower. D21 KA24E and KA24DE pans are likely the same. Car and truck KA24DE pans are totally different bolt pattern and gasket. 1 Quote Link to comment
Crytek89
Little update - getting closer to final assembly and swap. So picked up a Mishimoto rad last night - about a year old. Also found an intercooler kit (off-brand) that I may use in the future. The shocks I had linked earlier are now installed and working wonderfully - the existing front drivers side shock was useless and could be easily pushed in/out so glad I replaced them when I did. Datzenmike - do you know if Icehouse is still active on here for those wiring boxes? 1 Quote Link to comment

I ordered and Received one of those Wiring Boxes from Icehouse, Haven't Installed yet but looks and feels like good quality. He shipped it to New Brunswick with no problems. 1 Quote Link to comment

Yeah I finally got in contact with him via Email and I'll be picking one up fairly soon - after that just need Engine mounts and a frame mounted fuel pump and I think I'll be ready.. 1 Quote Link to comment
