It was made after '79. L series 5 speed. Consistent with being from an '80-'83 non turbo 280zx. Not from an '80 720 or it would have more transmission switches that just a reverse. Only other 5 speed fitting description would be the '81-'84 Maxima, but that rear mount says zx to me.

To find out for sure if it's a stock 280zx is to mark the input and the output spline with chalk. Place in 1st gear. Turn input 20 times and count the output turns. If the output turns 6.5 times, congrats, you have an '80-'83 zx gear box. Did you want to know if an '80 or an '81-'83? I can do that.

All 80-'83 5 speeds were close ratio 1 to 4 gears, but there were two different over drive ratios. The '80 is 0.773 (22.7%) and the '81-'83 was 0.745 (25.5%) A very subtle difference but mostly it tell you what year it is or isn't.

Same thing but place in 5th gear. Twenty turns in gives just about 15.5 output turns you have an '80 280zx. If you get just under 15 turns then you have an '81-'83 transmission.
