NC280z
Good evening all, I'm working on the stock Hitachi radio in my '75 280z, and I've got a strange issue that I'm unsure on where to start troubleshooting with. I am getting poor reception on AM and FM stations, and low volume to my speakers. Thinking that this was an antenna issue, I started to move my antenna around and ensure that the base was well-seated to the inner fender. In doing so, I found that the antenna base produces sparks when moved around, and I'm guessing that some sort of short in the radio is causing power to be sent to the antenna, causing the poor reception and low speaker volume due to the electrical interference. I put a voltmeter to the antenna while the radio was on, and found that the voltage builds up, and then discharges. It does this at a constant rate (capacitor issue?). I've opened the radio, and I cant seem to find anything out of the ordinary (blown/leaking capacitors, fried wires, etc.). Does anyone have the Hitachi wiring schematics, or know what would be a common cause of this issue? Thanks for your time and assistance! Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Is this a power antenna? Quote Link to comment
Middle man
Just wondering if your radio has a secure ground? Quote Link to comment
NC280z
It's a regular antenna, I removed the power antenna and capped the power wires for the antenna motor. I didn't think to check the ground, I'll do that on Thanksgiving. Quote Link to comment
