Why you need? Only required on some race courses to prevent spills from blown engines.

Catch can won't stop smoke. Get a baffled oil pan or windage tray. Better yet a dry sump.

Thx skib......

My bad Mike.......I failed to mention that the oil blew out the PCV hole on the L20B........

...........I don't even have the tube so the oil blew straight onto the header.....

..............hence the smoke.....

If not running a PCV, plug the lower block vent but keep the valve cover vent clear. Traveling to the top of the engine gives the oil droplets more time to stick to any surfaces and drip back into the pan. Again,a baffled oil pan will keep the oil contained around the pickup and prevent splashing the spinning crank, keeping the oil fog down. Gain a few hp too. A lower pan will help also if you have the clearance. If you can't go down widen the pan to the sides. Oil level will be lower but have the same amount in it.

Comp pans aren't cheap. A hefty $720, and a few month wait.

Antony, don't you have a rebuilt 2.2? Why would it have so much blowby?

No idea.....only at really high RPMs....like redline high......

........only happend the one time but it does still spit sometimes....just not enough to burn....

2.2....closed chamber head and a mild cam.....

Engine made it Oregon and back without burning a drop of oil......

Here's one that I have made a handful of. I plumb to the valve cover breather and the block breather combined so whatever comes out of the valve cover can drain back into the block. It also has baffles a filter on top and a removable lid so you can clean it out.

Some kind of catch can has been on my mental list of things for when I get my 2.2 in. I would prefer to have it working as a PCV system, but it's a little harder with side drafts. I have Mikuni 44s with the Mikuni manifold; I know how I could make it so that it pulls air from all cylinders, but I haven't decided yet. I'll for sure do something so fumes don't blow into the wiper motor hole and gas me out like the L16 did :D

Because that is a piece of crap with no filter and or trapping element in it. Its literally a can and two hoses. There is no swirling, no chambers to catch oil particles, nothing.

Now if you know how to modify it, then maybe it can be ok. But really, just use an air compressor water/oil separator.

That's right. Why have a catch can if it's just going to breath oily mess into the engine bay. Baffle it at least.

Mine are baffled, you can open them to clean them out, there's a filter on top, and if positioned properly in the engine bay, you can have them drain back into the block anything that gets puked into the can.
