robs521
So long story short, traded my 73 Plymouth valiant in perfect shape, for a beat up old datsun. I fell in love with datsuns when I built a 71 240z with my dad and now I'm getting married to a datsun with my beat up old truck. This thing needs love and I'm Ill knowledged on just about everything. Starting with the basics I've got to get this thing rolling. Has 2 l16 un-built engines and I am starting with the block. What is the best way to strip/coat the block itself to be clean as well as safe. I've herd acid dipping and powder coating? Sand blasting and painting? Any suggestions?? 1 Quote Link to comment

]2eDeYe
Take the block into your favorite machine shop. They will check it for cracks and out of tolerance and they will hot tank it clean for a small fee. This will save you a ton of heartache. 5 Quote Link to comment

robs521
is there a reason everyone on here is downtalking? dont get me wrong i see where youre coming from but dont be a bunch of rude old guys, im interested in selling the truck to at least try to get something ive always been more interested in. trucks are cool and iwould love to keep it and restore like i did with my dads 240, but combining the 2,000 from my dads car bing sold, i would rather try to inves a big chunk into something else like a 510,b210,610, i like sedans and coups, i dont really need a truck so im giving it thought. dont be rude and learn to grow up a little bit. ive been offered v8 swaped trucks and havent been interested. was told to just "swap the engine" from the original l16 to something 'better' but i actually kept it right and did a head gasket replacement like a real datsun lover would. end of story i really mght not even end up selling it, i might just keep on driving it. if anyone is interested im throwing it out there. as a bunch of senior members thats low key immature, you should at least try talking to someone before you throw your hate at them. 1 Quote Link to comment
Rick-rat
Don't pay any attention to the members talking shit. They seem to think that they know what will work best for you, and 99% of the time they are totally clueless "senior member" really doesn't mean anything, just that they have a lot of posts, most of them useless 1 Quote Link to comment

Rick-rat
The best route for anyone is to get what you really want, don't put a bunch of money in something you don't really want because you will never get it back. Spend your money on the Datsun you really will be happy with 1 Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
-Gets Datsun -Joins Datsun forum for advice -Gets advice -Loses interest and decides to sell -Gets shown the door I wouldn't call it "hate". I'd call it a normal response to a situation that's played out thousands of times here. Nothing new or unique about this situation. (And Rick-rat hates 521's, otherwise he'd be running you outta town on a rail, too.) 1 Quote Link to comment

Rick-rat
Micro, I don't hate any Datsuns, just a 521 would not be my first choice for a truck. And my 1st choice for any Datsun would be a 1980 200 SX 1 Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
who said i lost interest? It was implied when you posted seemingly excitedly then went ghost for 3 weeks, only when you returned to say that you decided to sell to get something 'more desirable'. youre jumping to conclusions on that one 'senior member' Like I said before, this has happened so many times here that it's not even funny; just a safe assumption. i still love datsuns as well as building them to be truly yours. But you're selling the one you just got as well as the one you helped your dad build? why is someone shown the door because they have interest insomething else?Hell, I'll show you the toilet if you like; it's in General Discussion. 1 Quote Link to comment
