My new 86 720 4x4 I just purchased. Does anyone know where I can find a driver side CV joint?

86 is a split year. Early 86 would be an exact match and work fine in your 84. Late 86, Nissan switched to d21 hardbody truck and changed quite a bit, so those will not work at all. Wrong lengths and different spine count.

I'm currently replacing the clutch and pressure plate. I just started on it today. I have everything taken up about from the under side. ( all of the driveshafts off)  Is it going to be rough taking the transmission off from the bottom? I am reading everywhere online that its better to take the engine out to do this?  Can anyone give me any advice/ pointers? This is my first time doing this.

Thanks

Removing the trans out the bottom requires removing the front diff. Getting that back in can be a total nightmare. Pulling the engine is by far the better proposition.

One tip to make things easier. On the front of the front diff is a large bolt. Remove that and it will allow the diff to drop about an inch. This doesn't seem like much, but with how tightly the oil pan is fitted around the diff it makes all the difference in the world.

If necessary, yes it can be done out the bottom, but it's harder and more time consuming then pulling the engine.

I pulled the tranny from the bottom, it's tight and getting the transmission back in took a whole day. if you do drop the tranny do yourself a favor and lower the differential and remove the exhaust do give yourself room. Good luck

Thanks for the help fellas. I ended up pulling it from the bottom. I took the crossbar off and lowered the differential and with a little wiggling and elbo grease it slid right on out. The hardest part about the whole thing was getting that very top bolt out right up against the firewall. I ended up and had to heat and bend a wrench to get it. All good to go now   Just have to put 2 u joint on in the morning and I will be right on time for opening day of deer season!
