So I let my friend redo the starter after I fixed a couple wires and now my truck is still sparking at the negative and it also tries to start itself please tell me he just installed the starter improperly and that's it

Unplug the harness that goes into the ignition switch, then check if it does it again when you put terminals on battery....I'm suspecting you found the problem...

Got you thanks for the info but do you guys think I will need a new pump the hoses seemed fine I'll double check tomorrow morning like I said it was leaking from underneath the fuel pump just the tiniest bit tho I will also reinstall the starter anything I should check or watch for in doing so?

starter is working, unplug ignition switch like Diego recommended, I'm with him thinking that's what's wrong

If it's been hot wired then unplugging the ignition isn't going to help. Without pics from underneath the dash its all speculation.

I'm guessing you have 3 wires joined

2 to close the circuit and 1 from the starter.

Do you have any wires behind the ignition plug that look joined quickly or roughly?

It only takes 3 wires to get a datsun going

I now attribute my earlier post to a brain fart.

But ya, when stolen they had to hot wire it right. I agree with everyone else, ign

Ok so I think something is missing not quite sure because when I disconnected the ignition wire it still sparks

Read this.

Now look for signs that your truck was hotwired when it was stolen.  I'm betting the wires are bare and touching.

Possible kill switch?

Op: where's the back of the ignitionew switch? Why does it look like the red and white wires end in the middle of the electrical tape on that main bundle in the center? Also, flip the switch and see if the battery still sparks. What is that switch? Old as shit it is

The switch was there when I bought it I actually thought it was put there from factory but I guess not and I already removed the black wires to the fuses the fuses look fine and intact and the only other wire that I thought was for the ignition is in the photo album I'm holding it or is that not to the ignition
