Draker
A little spark isn't anything.. but if you are welding with your battery terminals, that's something to look at. Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
When I put both cables on and try to start the truck it wouldn't give me anything any thoughts? Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
When I put both cables on and try to start the truck it wouldn't give me anything any thoughts? Well the battery may be dead from the continuous draw. Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
Late in the game here. Are you absolutely positive the cables on the battery are connected properly? Cannot remember reasoning at this moment....but, always connect the negative post first. If for some reason the posts were reversed at any point you may have fried the battery. Grab a parking light or something that is easy to connect to both terminals and see if the light operates. Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
To ericsb210 are you trolling? The posi goes on first..... and I haven't been able to get to my truck which is across town at my mothers but I will definitely be going there tomorrow Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Remove the negative battery cable first. This way if anything like a wrench touches ground when disconnecting the positive post nothing will happen. When connecting the battery I would put the positive on first. It's a larger diameter and the smaller negative cable end won't fit it, and again, if the wrench touches the body nothing will happen. Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
Na, not trolling. Somewhere in the past I had that "ground" into my head. I will do some research and get back to this thread. 1 Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
Hey mike I disconnected the fuses one at a time and still nothing but it started to piss rain hard so my attempts were thwarted Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
Kohearts the wire is something the previous owner did it goes to a bundle of wires that include the aftermarket stereo a aftermarket gauge and aftermarket speakers Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
I hate the fact that I'm garbage with electrical things but I'm still applying myself to learn about it.... I was told that it could just be because my ground wire is dirty also a guy told me batteries always spark like that but I doubt what my negative post is giving off is normal anyway thank you guys again for the information thus far Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
A spark means there is a load allowing current to flow from one terminal to the other. It could be something like the interior lamp stuck on. Generally when the ignition is turned off there is no current flow so that if the car is left for a week the battery will not be dead the next time you go to start it. A clock needs constant power but it is so slight it will easily run for a month with little effect on battery charge. An after market gauge may be wired on all the time. Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
So mike would you suggest just taking the gauge out completely because when I drove the truck before I never once looked at it Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
I think it's time to get the wiring diagram and go through the pain of tracing every wire, I'm wondering if the thieves decided to screw around with the wiring purposely to annoy you. Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
Kohearts should I be looking for a melted wire? 1 Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
Melted, burnt, disconnected in the insulation, anything that looks wrong. 1 Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
Or just hit both ends of the same wire path with a tester and see if you have current running all the way through or if it's pulling when the car is off. I'm guessing aftermarket stereo might be the cause, you made it sound like it's hard wired to the battery Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
What Hobo said, anything that looks like it doesn't belong. Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
So I let my friend redo the starter after I fixed a couple wires and now my truck is still sparking at the negative and it also tries to start itself please tell me he just installed the starter improperly and that's it Quote Link to comment
Emilio's79620
Also there is a small gas leak from the thing at the end of the valve cover next to the battery I forgot what it was called sorry Quote Link to comment

Emilio's79620
Lmfao I knew it was called the pump but my friend swore that the pump was above the gas tank Quote Link to comment
