datzenmike
All you need is a tach. Unmodified push rod V8 good to 6K-6.5K all day. Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Msd ignition boxes have built in rev limiters Quote Link to comment
Dolomite
Throttle control is your friend. You looking to play drifty-bounce-off-the-limiter-so-people-look-at-me or something? A 5.0 will definitely tell you when it needs to be shifted. Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
I consider rev limiters like seat belts. You never want to use them, but they can save your ass. Why not run one if you race? Keeps you from blowing a motor. Quote Link to comment
S.osolit13
thank you^ no im not wanting to get people to look at me first gear in my car is pretty short and i don't wanna blow my motor leaving the line when at the track thank you very much if i had longer gears i wouldn't need one but since they're short and i like the way they're set i thought might as well look into one just so i don't blow anything up Quote Link to comment
S.osolit13
and my 5.0 is modified so i don't wanna let it rev extremely high then see something pop through the hood lol Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Modified??? Does it have custom rods and bolts? These would allow you to safely rev higher. Use tach, shift at 6-6.5K you should be ok all day. I used to shift my 340 just by the sound. It had a tach but taking off in first there's too much going on to be watching it like a hawk. Modified??? Does it have custom rods and bolts? Quote Link to comment
S.osolit13
its got rods that are like 50,000th of an inch bigger i think ill have to check my papers but i just want one as a safety net cause the cars a rocket off the line and if i ever fuck up or miss a shift and the thing revs as high as i can thats not good haha but ive never ran a rev limiter before so just wanted to know what people thought of them and if they have any recommendations Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Have faith in yourself. Not every take off is going to be like the drags. Engines with a solid bottom end seldom blow from a quick over rev. Like sex... practice, practice, practice, don't get too excited, relax and enjoy yourself. 1 Quote Link to comment
