Not hard. On a Datsun, the last 6 numbers are the production numbers. First letters/numbers are the model.

 

My 610 is KPL610-018XXX.

K...is Hardtop, W is wagon

P... is L18, H is L20B

L... left hand drive

A... automatic, blank is 4 speed

T... floor shift, blank is column

U... USA through'74, '75 on... U is California, V is federal and Canada

 

 

Don't have much for the 1200.

Datsun serial numbers don't say much.  There's a much longer code that was on the window sticker that had more info (the last 3 letters Mike gave are the ones you want), but won't be in the "VIN"., only the original window sheet or sales receipt from the dealer.  It's not like modern VINs that practically list every option.

 

All you'll have is LB110xxxxxx.  Which basically is, left hand drive, model B110, and a 6-digit serial number which would be the production line starting from 000001 and ending wherever B110s ended.
