Akujin
Hi! I'm still new here and don't really wander about here. But I have a small problem! I'm looking for parts and don't know where to start. Recently i've had my datsun go for a smog check... didn't pass this year :( turns out somethings up with the E.G.R valves. They are "missrouted", well after checking it turns out the valves are plugged up. They seem purposly plugged up with cork. Anyone know why someone would do this... and does anyone know where i can find spare parts of this E.G.R. valves and pretty much the system that operates it. anyone know where one could find spare parts...? And another note! My neighbor recently got a datsun for himself... now i dont know if he just got it for the hell of it or what... it's in his front yard collecting dust! Would it be rude to ask him for spare parts? lol Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Vague bits of info. Years? Have you removed said cork and retested? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
There is only one EGR valve. It's attached to the intake and can be unbolted and cleaned with a wire brush. The EGR is opperated by a vacuum signal from the carburetor so the rubber hose must be in good shape. What looks like cork could be combustion deposits. There should be a metal pipe from the EGR manifold directly to the exhaust manifold. Exhaust gasses must be able to travel through this pipe so run a wire through it and be sure it's open. A picture of your 'EGR valves' might be helpful. Sometimes members call a part by the wrong name or are just mistaken about what they are talking about. It happens. 1 Quote Link to comment
Akujin
Yes you are right, i do not know the correct term for these objects in the English language. I will take a picture tomorrow as it is night now. But my mechanic said the valves connecting to the vacuum are multiple and 2 of the tubes are clogged. Quote Link to comment
Akujin
My datsun is a 1978 B210 Quote Link to comment
Sierra
Get a Factory Service Manual and get to know the emissions system. Is not that complicated. In it you will find some of the following diagrams. If in fact your EGR valve is bad you can find it at your local auto parts store. I did. Quote Link to comment
Akujin
Here you go. See i thought there was corck inside but it turned out to be an actual piece of metal lodged in there. It's solid and hard to get out. Not sure why this was done or what it would do if removed... but that's the piece that's the problem. Not sure what it is... but if i was reading the diagram from the previous post correctly... looks like the tube comming out of the distributor into the intake manifold... but i could be wrong. datzenmike
There should be two hose connections on the base of the carburetor. One goes to the V V T and then to the EGR (shown in your picture). The other hose goes to the vacuum advance on the distributor. Depending on the year of B-210 there may be a thermal vacuum valve in line for these hoses that only allows vacuum through when the engine is warmed up. California emission hoses also sometimes have small restrictions inside the hoses, but not plugs. Quote Link to comment
Akujin
yeah that's why i'm saying someone placed a plug in there on purpose but for what reason i don't know. That's what i would like to find out and its a 78. The black circle in the picture is where i pulled it out from to reveal a small metal cylinder lodged in. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well if going to the distributor and coming from the intake it's wrong anyway. Vacuum advance hose is run from the carburetor with likely a T V V thermal vacuum valve between. Quote Link to comment
Akujin
ah so it actually IS misrouted? Smog papers said the e.g.r. was misrouted Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The circled hose should go to the left side of that round thing with the two hoses coming out of the top. Quote Link to comment
Akujin
Well from what i can see it is on the left side. The round thing has 2 exits with 2 hoses attached. You can vaguely see the second hose in the picture going upwards. The other hose is going towards the camera. Looks like a Nut from a Bolt Quote Link to comment
Akujin
I might just pay under the table to get it to pass smog check if i can't fix it... it'll just be a bit pricey... but then i'll have a year to work on the problem I mean it's running great, perfectly. Runs on the freeway, i would take it to work daily about 30 miles a day. Never had a problem with it, it just wont pass the damn smog check. Quote Link to comment
angliagt
Since you can't even post where you are in California, & you've told the world that you want someone to risk losing their CA smog license, then I feel that you get what you deserve You might want to try & do this in a legal way. I might even help you - if you'd be honest. - Doug Quote Link to comment
