datzenmike Posted August 30, 2015 Report Share Posted August 30, 2015 no. But it can be made to fit with some wrenching on your part. The 720 gas engines after '80 were Z series and the '80 was an L series. The bolt patterns are the same but clocked differently because the two engines sit in the truck at different angles. The only difference between a 71B (4 or 5 speed) for an L series and a Z series is the front cases with the different bolt pattern position. You can remove these front cases and swap them to convert. There were no 4 speed '83s so this will be unique. 1 Quote Link to comment
