tekkjosen
Haha, yeah. Used a smaller removal tool first, but bendt it :P Thanks ! :D just hope the engine works, since I haven't tested it yet :P Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
28.12.15 (Part 1) So got the flywheel mounted the day after I made the previous post :) Tightened it with loctite and used a torque wrench :) Then went down to the apartment and came back the next weekend again, but only got time to do a little job on the car, so got the engine a little more prepared for taking out, so I removed the clutch cylinder :) The next weekend I used a day to remove the engine :) So started taking off the rest that still heldt the engine to the car :) ' Ended up with removing the manifoils as well... wanted to just take off the exhaustpipe, but didn't quite reach the screws :/ Some of the screws were good and rusty so used some rust loosener :) But luckily it didn't take to long before it was off  Moved over the engine "holder" from the L16 Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
(Part 2) Didn't want the driveshaft to drop down on the floor so buildt it up :) Got the engine attached and began to take it out :) First time I've taken an engine out all by myself, also the first datsun engine I've removed, so was very concentrated on alot of things so forgot that it poured out gear oil from the gearbox, even took a picture of it and didn't think to put something under it at first haha  Really glad we have the lifting thing in the roof, wouldnt been space for an elephant engine jack when the car stands like this :) Hehe, you can see that it poured alot of oil out on the floor before I realised I should put anything under it :P Was really glad when I finally got it out ! There are some difference on the looks of the engines :P , will be great to get a clean engine in the car now ! :) Did this late in the night before I left to the Philippines actually the next day (20.12.15) to celebrate christmas, so got like 1,5 hour of sleep before we left on a 3 hour drive to the airport, but was worth it ! :D Have been down here for about a week now, I'm staying in Tolledo (I think it's called) about an hour drive from the city Cebu where we landed :) And I'm going back home the 7. January, so I wondered if anyone here knew or had any tips on what a car enthusiast could see here in that time ? maybe even something related to old japanese / datsuns cars ? :D Would be really appreciated if anyone had any tips ! :) I have actually not seen any old datsuns other than a couple of laurels and some trucks down here, and most of the modifyed cars are hondas down here as I have seen ( really nice ones some of them to ! :) ) But anyways, will be putting the engine in soon after I get back home, Just want to clean up alittle in the engine bay to first, should have painted it, but won't be anything before EU anyways, now I just want to get it going and test it ! :D Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I would have left the trans in the car. its ezer to pull just the engine out I also leave the water pump off and install that later as it give a little more room. then when installing I jack the trans up a then angle the engine into it and turn the crank by hand to line the trans slines up and it slips it. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
I've repeatedly drained transmissions all over my floor the same way you did. You would think I would have learned much more quickly than I did. .. 2 Quote Link to comment

Yeah, I won't do everything the same way the next time I take out the engine as I did now. But I'm going to swap the trans as well and was so tight underneath the car so didn't want to try to unscrew the tranny so took the whole thing out :) But thx for the innstallation tips ! :) Quote Link to comment

tekkjosen
17.02.16 Haven't been an update in a while now, but when I've been home in the weekends I have continued preparing the engine bay for the engine that's going in :) Have used much of my time when I've been home the last couple of weeks to drive snowmobile and other since it's been so nice weather outside :P So have been a little to short time on the datsun :/ But started with the electric by removing the cables that lied in the way and taking off the exhaust manifoil :) Another bolt that snapped right off because of rust :poop: Removed the "wiring connection box" and cleaned up some of the connections that looked bad Will paint this white later :) Removed the board the battery stands on and started to grind underneath it where it was a good amount of surface rust. 4 Will also paint this before I put it in again Have been grinding down little by little every time I've been home again, and when I came longer up on the wall it was easy to see that the car most probably had been crashed earlier, because it looked like a crumpled paper some places on the inner wall. Also one of the previous owners have done some awful pre-work before they decided to paint small areas of the car with some ugly dark blue-black color that just lied on the top of the original paint able to be scraped off with your fingernail :/ After grinding a bit i went over light with a wire brush wheel on the parts that were painted. And scraped off the bad paint. And it was hiding some rust underneath... Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
(Part 2) Also spotted that the previous owner had used some body filler while I was grinding on the wall. On the top as well But looks like he have grinded down to the steel an then used filler right on top of it, making it attract water and then rust... Peeled off bites like this So decided I wanted to grind down all of the filler I could find on the car and do it over again, but with primer underneath :) Wondered if anyone knew what this gold colored material is ? Looked like it was filled in underneath the body filler in some places. Continued the grinding More filler on top of the rust Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
(Part 3) Took off the front fender and some other parts :) Also found an old Norwegian coin that's not being used here any more in a pretty wierd place :P In the wall behind the fusebox, Unlucky to have lost it there hehe :P So covered up and made it ready for painting :) Had just enough for two layers of paint before I went down to the apartment again. Bought more paint a couple of days ago so will try to take the rest in the weekend again :) Also I finally got ordered the gasket kit for the carburetor to the L16 :) and I came over a good price on a weber 32/36 that one here in Norway was going to sell, so will buy that as fast as he is ready to ship it :) Quote Link to comment

tekkjosen
22.02.16 (Part 1) Got some work done this weekend :) Started to paint the remaining layers of anti corrision primer :) Started to grind down some parts making them ready for painting. Straightened out a little dent as well, so it looked a bit better :) Cleaned it, primed and painted it white :) Next day :) Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
(Part 2) Started with this as well while I was waiting for the paint to dry. ' A bit tight and tricky to get to everything on the underside :P 2 Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
01.03.16 Finally got the gasket kit for the nikki carb a little while ago (one of the hardest parts I've had to find i think :P), so put that back together  But the rubber gasket for the float chamber glass was about twice as thick as the old gasket, so couldn't get the glass mounted on. So cut it in half, don't know how well it went out, but will try with the new gasket, and if it starts leaking I will just use the old one :) Matched pretty well with the thickness of the old gasket tho :) Good to have it all cleaned up and ready to be mounted again ! :) Just need to put up a steel wire for the manual choke then :) Tried a layer with body filler since the garage was filled up with cars so I couldn't grind. Layed a thin layer and sanded down to the steel some places so covered it with paint again. Cleaned the intake manifoil while the paint was drying :) Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
(Part 2) Continued with the surface rust in the engine bay Covered up and painted Just started a week of vacation, so hope to get some work done this week :) Quote Link to comment

Boundish
Åja, har hele tiden trodd det bare var 610'n som ble kalt 160/180B jeg :P 610 er 160/180b frem til 1976/77 etter det er det 810 . 610 og 810 er på en måte som Bmw e30 og e36 to generasjoner av samme modell. Quote Link to comment

tekkjosen
02.03.16 About to get the L14 engine stored away in the barn with the rest of the parts, but had forgotten all about the plate between the engine and gearbox that didn't follow with the L16 I bought so thought I could use the one from the L14 if it fits :) So took off the gearbox and flywheel and got the plate :) When I was taking off the flywheel I used a 27 spanner on the main pulley on the front to hold against with when I was loosening the screws on the flywheel, but after one screw it ended up with loosening the pulley instead :P . So found the impact wrench, and it loosened so easy ! Don't know why I've struggled with the screws earlier to but never tried with the impact wrench  Won't tighten them with it tho ;) Was pretty oily in the gearbox to, probably because of the bad rear crank seal wich made the clutch slipp to. Tested the plate :) uncept for a couple of extra holes it seemed to fit :) But the L16 don't have the mounts for the extra "arms" to hold the lowest part of the plate like the L14 have, so don't know if it's enough or if I should have something to press it more against the gearbox ? Will try to continue with the engine bay tomorrow and maybe get the connection box ready for installation again :) 1 Quote Link to comment

tekkjosen
07.03.16 A small update from the weekend :) Got the connection box ready for mounting :) Grinded some more in the engine bay :) Covered up and painted  Took the cover on the front to while the paint was drying, think I will paint it white :) Also I have a question about the distributors on L engines. the distributor that followed the L16 was all stripped, so wondered if I could use the one from the L14 on the L16 or to use the parts ? part number on the: L14 distrib.: D411-95 611 L16 distrib. D411-58K 103 Will also buy some more paint and tools while I'm down here at the apartment now in the week :) Quote Link to comment
