tekkjosen
04.10.15 (part 1) Continued with the engine clean today, finished the top, and got done some work on the block as well :) Took off the Intake and exhaust manifoil :) All the bolts went off pretty nice uncept for one, didn't use force at all but one of the bolts on the top of the intake manifoil snapped off :/ Didn't think it looked all to nice under the manifoil :P Noticed a crack in the upper corner on the exhaust manifoil, had broken off a bit... Don't know if it is because I have lifteed the engine from there or if it have been like that all the time, but will either let it be like that, or mabye take the exhaust from my L14 :) Got the exhaust off :) But didn't like the look of this inside the intake, looks like it have been a spider nest or something there  Didn't dare to put my finger down there to see if it was lying anything there (can't stand spiders ) But talked with some friends, I thought I might had to take off the top to get it real cleaned up, but got told that it would be fine :) So will mabye try to just spray some fuel in and turn the engine a couple off times and change the oil :) So hope that's good ? :) Then over to the cleaning :) Went over with a steel brush to get rid off all the oil and dirt :) I've decided I want to paint the engine block, but not all sure what color yet :) Want to have white details on the blue car, but don't think it will be so nice with a white engine block, and I don't think it will be white for a very long time either :P But thought of mabye paint it blue, black or mabye a dark grey ? :) Any suggestions ? :D Pretty sure I will have som black details on the top cover tho :) If I get time tomorrow I will test some colors on the top cover and block on photoshop  Finished the top, and scraped off most off the gasket leftovers from the manifoil :) Was some thick oil stored down with the distributor, wondered if this could be a gasket that's failing or if it is normal ? :) Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
04.10.15 (part 2) Thought it would look nice with this cover painted as well :) Also I wondered if anyone have seen "scratches" like this in the engine before ? Could this be under the manufacturing ? Just don't hope something have loosened and been thrown around in there :) More from the cleaning :) Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
09.10.15 Did a little work on the other side of the engine a couple of days ago :) Started to clean with paper and engine clean, will go over with a steelbrush tomorrow tho :) Removed some of the water hoses, that I think I will replace as well :) ' Took off the oil filter, Should probably replace that while I'm at it ? :P Put on a thin oil film on the gasket and put it on again for now :) Have done some quick tests on photoshop as well, to get an idea of how the paint would look like :) It's especially two styles I like on the top cover This : And this : What do you guys think of them ? or any other suggestions ? :D Tested out on the block as well : Think mabye I will go for the one with black block and blue details, or with blue block and black details :) Original : Think the blue will be some darker if I paint it :) And some other suggestions :P : Won't be so easy to see on the sides, but if I go for blue or black details I will paint some details on the front cover as well :) Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
pretty sure this is excess casting having been ground off  looking good! i vote blue! or silver 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
I like valve cover option number 2 with the black down in the grooves. If you go blue go stock blue because why not? I don't like black personally because if I end up with leaks they are harder to trace. Silver or charcoal would also look really good. 1 Quote Link to comment

Color looks like this : But think I will like to have a contrast between the block and top, so heading more for the blue now :) 1 Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
Looked really nice (especially with the gold details) ! Is it yours ? :) Quote Link to comment

I don't like black personally because if I end up with leaks they are harder to trace. Silver or charcoal would also look really good. If I go for blue, I think I will just buy some from the store here if I don't have any. And with not so many options here when it's heat resistant I think I just will take the lightest blue, could probably get mixed one that looks like the original, but a light blue would be fine for me (and cheaper :P) :) Forgot to think about leaks on the black surface, other than that you wouldn't see dirt so quick hehe. So thanks for the heads up ! :) Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
(part 1) 20.10.15 Went over with a steelbrush and finished cleaning the other side of the block a while ago :) Took off the clutch disc Think I should try to buy a new one :) (?) Took off the flywheel as well to check the rear crank seal :) Looked like it might had been sweating a little bit so changed the seal, had the one I was supposed to change on the L14 still, so used that :) Went in nicely  1 Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
(part 2) Drained the oil and took off the oil pan :) The oil had become pretty thick tho Was some small "clumps" of oil in the pan. And in the filter I saw something that looked like a couple of really small "stones", but cleaned the filter and will take out all the goo in the pan :) So started with the oil pan yesterday, going to paint that to :) Took most of it with a steelbrush on the drill :) Tried to buy some heat resistant blue paint today, but the store didn't have any blue, but will try to get it from somewhere else soon :) 1 Quote Link to comment

tekkjosen
25.10.15 Cleaned up and painted the oil pan yesterday, ended up with a red oil pan :) Scraped off the gasket and cleaned the inside Got this in the mail while I was painting  Purchased some fender mirrors from the US a while ago, and got it in the mail a couple of days ago, thought I had paid for 1 pair, but was only 1 mirror in the package, so must have misunderstood.Ordered a new one now so have to pay twice for the shipping <_< Not the cheapest from US to Norway... But anyways.. I liked the look of it :) 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
red oil pan?????????? ps love the Husqvarna motor? Is that a Cagiva Motor(Italy) or actually a Husky sweeden motor ? Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
Yeah, ended up with that  wanted something else than blue all over, and wasn't sure if I should use heat resistant or not. So took the color i had in heat resistant :) Might not be the best color combo, but easy to spot leaks and might not get so ugly fast as if it was white :) I'm not all sure about the engine, but the husky has a "MV Agusta" badge on the frame, But when I opened it this winter I could only see husky logos and names inside, so I think it's and engine that husqvarna produced :) Might be cagiva engines in bigger bikes :) (?) tekkjosen
26.10.15 A small update from yesterday :) Oil pan finished, will be a big contrast from the rest of the engine tho :P Started on the carb that followed the L16 yesterday, going to take it all apart and clean it :) Easy to see that it's been standing for a couple of years :P So much goo everywhere in it. Splitted it in 3 Don't know if most of it's just old petrol that have layed there for years ? Found this in the float camber, looks like hard plastic Weird, but if I had found it somewhere else I would gess it was a bit from a flasher glass on a car or something haha  Layed it in a petrol bath over the night :) hopefully it will loosen it all up so it gets easier to work with today  Working slow on the carb to find out what all the different screws are for and how it works :) and I'm taking alot of pictures to have when i'm gonna put it back together again :D Using time to clean out all the "passages" in the carb (not sure if this is the right word :P) Pressed the accelration pump yesterday and it's stored some goo in there as well, so will run through new petrol in that and other places :) Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Looking good. And passages is a correct word for that. :) 1 Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
26.10.15 Started on the "middle part" of the carb today :) The petrol had really loosened up the dirt  So went over with a toothbrush with petrol and presssure air to clean the carb, jets and passages :) Blew with the compressor through the jets and passages :) Scraped off all the gaskets :) Made myself a little system to get it back together again hehe :P Was much easier to clean all the curves and corners after a night in petrol ! If i get time tomorrow I will try to do the top and bottom of the carb :) Going to buy a gasket kit for the carb, but struggling to find the model name of the carb. so many different types of Nikki carbs and can't find any part number on it. Have found exatly the carb I got on ebay, but doesn't say any name other than Nikki there either as I can find. Maybe some of you know the model name for this ? or any gasket kits that fits ? :D Here's the one I found on Ebay if that can help : http://www.ebay.com/itm/1239-BRAND-NEW-CARBURETOR-DATSUN-610-710-720-ENGINES-L18-Z20-1973-1986-/141283426964?fits=Make%3ANissan Edit : Think I found the part number like 2 minutes after I posted this haha :D 16010-NK2445 and / or 16010-13W00 Will look more for the gasket kit tomorrow, but if anyone knows where to get it I would be grateful for help :) Edited October 26, 2015 by tekkjosen 1 Quote Link to comment
