tekkjosen
If you want to remove all that tar/plastic crap from the inside, get dry ice. If you break dry ice into a bunch of small bits and spread it out on that stuff, it will harden and then just hitting it with a hammer will shatter it up off the floor. Sweet car man Nice, didn't know that :D Not sure yet to remove all in the back or keep it in, in the front it's so loose I can rip it off with my hands, not sticky to the floor either :) But will try that method if I decide to rip all out and if it's hard to get off ! Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
19.09.15 Started inside the car on the floor in front, grinding down the rust that I don't have to cut away :) Haven't removed so much of the interior except for the passenger seat and some carpets, so just hanged the carpet that's on the wall in the front up in a wire and started grinding. (not so smart :P) After I had held on for a while I thought it was a bit much smoke in the car, saw that the soundproofing under the floormat that i hanged up was about to start burning, got some water and put it out, and ripped off around where it had started to burn, so after that I put up a mat in the front of the grinding sparks and continued :P Grinded where I thought the steel was good underneath the surface rust :) Underneath the paint it looked like it was small dots of rust everywhere, but will try to take away most of it before I paint over it. (not sure if all of the small dots ctually are rust tho :)) Walked over with a screwdriver and hit it light with a hammer around on the floor to see if it went through :) It did some places :P So began to cut away the worst bit Put the fuel line away ( didn't want to start an even bigger fire  ) But when I took off the mounts for the fuel line I saw it was supposed to be one line more with the fuel line, because the mounts had space for one more. Anyone know what's supposed to be there ? :) Fuel line out of the way, so continued the cutting :) Became really dusty in there, so glad I decided to use a mask :) Will start the welding as soon as we get a welding machine :) Ordered the rear crank seal for the L14 from JP-carparts.com  so think that will arrive in the post pretty soon  I also purchased a gearknob for a couple of days ago that I just had to buy when I saw it ! :P thought it was awesome :D 1 Quote Link to comment

Anyone know what's supposed to be there ? :) I think my 74 710 Hardtop has a fuel return line next to the main fuel line ... you don't really "need" a return line and it might have never had one 1 Quote Link to comment

Greased monkey
Looking good man! I have to get moving on my 710 again. I got a bunch of factory equipment in my way right now but sooner than later that will all change. Ill be watching progress on your build 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I don't know if the factory put that 'sound deadener/rust proofing on or the dealer. I suspect the dealer does just to charge for it. The problem is they get minimum wage kids to do it and they aren't very good at it. Here's my drive shaft... They sprayed it too. Yeah, suspects it may be more small bits with rust underneath the proofing, might be some cracks or scratches I can't see. It's many here in Norway that gets a tectyle treatment after purchase to, because of all the snow and salty roads :) The short driveshaft was from a 710 automatic ? :) Wondered if there were any 5 speed gearboxes you recommend using more than others ? Thinking of putting in a 5 speed later  Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
20.09.15 Took out most of the interior today, and ripped out som of the Sound/rust proofing plates in the floor :) Decided to get rid of all the plates and replace them with new / other types later :) Used a flat screwdriver and hit it with a hammer, Went off pretty easy :) Dumped out the back seats to, found some cables behind them, probably been to some speakers in the back earlier :) Some pictures taken from the trunk :) Bought myself a rising sun sticker that I got in the mail for a couple of days ago, that I wanted to put on my fuel cap:) (Have to buy some small funny stuffs in the build :P) Thought it looked good :D 3 Quote Link to comment

tekkjosen
23.09.15 Fixed some extra keys for the ignition and doors at the local hardware store yesterday :D (had only 1 example, and thought it would be nice with one more  ) Tested them today, and they fit to :P Didn't think I would get keys that were so alike the original, but the ignition key was almost identical to the original one, just a little bit longer :) Door keys Got the rear crank seal today from JP-carparts  After I researched I found that the part number for it was 12279-R4601, so when I asked Jp-carparts they said that Nissan had replaced the 12279-R4601 with 12279-5L310 :) (In case someone is going to purchase this, but can't find it because it's the old part number :)) Just have to see if it fits first tho :) My gearknob also arrived 2 days ago :) mounted it today, but was a smaller diameter than the original, so made a bit bigger hole and threaded it up :) Was some really soft plastic/rubber in there so was easy to thread :) Haha, sat a few minutes just changing gears with the new gearknob :D Think it looked great  Removed the sound / rust proofing under the rear seat as well :) Was checking some mounts in the floor and what they were mounted to on the underside, while I was lying there under the car I noticed the rubber over the rear axle. Wondered if this was for if a big road bump got the car so low that the rear axle would touch the top ? and that the rubber would make the touch softer ? :D Also I have talked to a guy with a 510 her in Norway that was selling his L16, so I was supposed to pick it up now on saturday, but he changed his mind, because his original engine broke down :/ But he had a gearbox for sale + a clutch disc, and it's the clutch disc I actually need for the engine now so going to buy it on saturday ! 1 Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
The rubber is bump stop. Keep you from bottoming out hard on bumps. 1 Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
25.09.15 (Part 1) Took out the rest of the sound / rust proofing today. Tested ice cubes to cool the plate down, and it did let go from the floor much easier, knocked off bigger bits than before  Alot of rust underneath the plate in the front :hmm: Wanted to take of the mat in the front :) So I removed the heater as well. Thought it was a pretty big air tube for the car :P When I took off the air tube I noticed this inside the heater The first I thought was that it was some kind of heat resistors ? :) Anyone that knows ? :D Was ready to put under a bucket when I took of the water line, in case it was pouring water down, but didn't come anything out :) Not so weird when I saw that the water line just ended right on the other side of the wall without being mounted to anything  So then I took the heater out and removed the mat :) Got rid of the remaining soundproofing Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
25.09.15 (part 2) My front window heater weren't connected, but think I should have this for the winter :) But do I need to drill a hole for the outlet ? Only place it looks like it could come from is sealed. Thought mabye I could drill a hole there and put on a tube to this on each side ? :) Another picture from the left front floor  (pretty crunshy :P ) Right side Under the door list Talked with the guy that I was supposed to buy the L16 from again, after his L13 broke down he had to keep it, but he told me yesterday that he had gotten himself a L18 engine so I could come and pick up the L16 afterall :D so I'm heading there tomorrow to pick it up with a friend of mine that's going to get a 1,6 l Toyota engine to :D (so I'm getting pretty excited about it  ) Will post some photos tomorrow when I pick up the engine :D 1 Quote Link to comment
Haseo
http://prntscr.com/8knkx5 I'll take a picture later, but it is working, but likely missing a part or two for it to reach up there you show in a different picture. I sorta had the issue not knowing why when i once removed that and didnt get heat up to the window. Quote Link to comment
Haseo
The tubes in the middle of the pictures are likely what you are missing out to get your heater for window working, I'll try whenever Im over at my own car again to take a picture of the piece itself as just stored it. tekkjosen
Oh, understand. Just took a quick overlook a late night so didn't look very in to it, but thanks for the info ! :D When I saw the picture I remembered I had the rubber tubes i think is for the heater in the window :P gonna check it tomorrow when I get home :) Quote Link to comment

The 280z and zx FS5W71B 5 speeds are 31.5" long as are the European FS5W63A 'dogleg 5 speeds' from a 910SSS. I would much prefer the very heavy duty 6 cylinder transmission from the z or zx over the 63A dogleg.. Those two coils are simply a resistance selected by the fan speed switch. Low would be through both, medium speed through only one and high speed used neither and connects 12 volts directly to the motor. This hose is replaced by the air conditioning unit in models so equipped.. 1 Quote Link to comment

tekkjosen
27.09.15 (part 1) Picked up my engine + transmission yesterday :D Left home around 09.00 and came back around 23.00 so had some hours in the car (Hiace) :P It became fully loaded as well, the one I travelled with picked up a 1,6 l Toyota engine, and the seller had some celica ta27 parts he was going to throw away so we took with us some celica struts, springs and a rear axle with steel rims and tires + a driveshaft :) then picked up my engine later on the way :) Got my engine into the garage this morning :) The seller said that someone mounted short shift on the gearbox, mabye the previous owner :) Mine is really loose, feels like it's in netural in every gear :P But this was really good ! :D Excited to get it in the car :) Want to go over it and at least clean it before I put it in :) So took a quick wash with the pressure washer :D just to get off the worst of oil :) But had to seal some holes first :) The manifoil and a spark plug that was missing Took a piece from a broken motorcycle tire tube :) 2 Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
(Part 2) Got some of the worst away, especcially the thick layers of oil :) Hanged the engine back again to dry a little, and cleaned the garage, and with the nice warm weather today in the autumn (not so often days like this now) I took a break, and a good way to take a break was to drive my little honda dax a little trip (chinese replica) I bought for about a year ago now :) Have used it for the winter and when my 50cc engine broke down I had some time before my 125cc lifan engine came in the mail, so did a little fun project on it with parts just laying around :) Put on a headlight fairing from an old suzuki for fun, but thought it looked cool so left it on  Looked like this before :) A little off topic there but anyways :) Started cleaning up in some parts in the garage and moved them :) When I went through my trunk I saw that it followed some mercedes benz parts  No idea why, but was actually a couple of plastic parts and stuff to a mercedes W124 i think :P The carb that followed, looked like it had some sticky goo in it, so think I will try to open it and clean it good before I put it in :) mabye the idle problems gets fixed with the new carburator  The L16 have been stored the last 3 years, and not been used, but the guy I bought it from said that it started 3 years ago :) (tested today, and it turns around at least ) So getiting excited to put it in and test it :) (Will use some time on it first tho :)) 1 Quote Link to comment

tekkjosen
28.08.09 Continiued to clean the engine today :) Took off the cylinder head cover :) Got a little overview on what gaskets and parts I need to buy for the engine to :) Just started a week with autumn vacation now, so hope to get some work done through this week, going to visit my sister in Gjøvik for a couple of days from tomorrow, so will try to shop some things I need for the engine down there :) 7 Think I will try to polish the head cover, and mabye paint with some black around the letters :) So will try to buy some metal polish tomorrow in the city :P Quote Link to comment
tekkjosen
03.10.15 After I got home from my visit at my sister on gjøvik (drove the husqvarna about 2 hours each way... Can't say it's buildt for comfort haha :P But fun anyways  ) I got some metal polish and polishing tools :) Used a little time on polishing the top cover, just sanded it a little down with 800 sand paper where it was at it's worst, and then used metalpolish and a polishing pad I attached to the drill :) Thought it was a big improvement, and didn't take long at all :) After the car had been stored inside the garage about a week after I've grinded down the floor on the right side in front it has appeared a thin layer of rust on top of it, saw that I should have finished all that needed to be cut away first and then welded it and grinded down and painted after, but since we haven't got a welding machine yet I wanted to start with something, so took the surface rust first. Grinded down the floor again, and painted it with anti rust primer, covered the parts I'm going to cut away or need to weld later :) Will do the cutting and welding first on the rest of the car ( a little reverse and extra work the way I did ) :P So I will try to find a welding machine to buy very soon ! Continued the egnine clean today, took some time to clean all the formes on the top, but think it will look great :) Haven't done so much on the engine block yet, but will try to be finished with the most tomorrow :) Think I will have some black details on the top cover and mabye paint the engine block, not quite sure what color yet :) Will be testing with some photoshop first to see how it looks :P 2 Quote Link to comment
