Seat repair goop recommendations?

Recommended Posts

Now that the Z is back on the road I'm attending to some other issues. My driver's seat is original and in good shape except 2 little holes. Which will be two big holes soon. Neither is on a seam. I remember a sled mechanic when I used to work for a ski area who used a black shoe goo type product that worked awesome on the snowmobile seats. Anyone have anything to recommend?

There are several Vinyl Upholstery repair kits on the market.  Can't rememver any specific manufacturers names!  Used one on my smoker daughter's Toyota, came out OK!  If small hole just shovel in the goop, select proper matching texturing paper and cure with the heater, which looks like a soldering iron with a flat disc on its tip.  Came out very good!  If a large hole, use a backer like fiberglass window bug screen or denim [any old Jeans you want to toss?]

No, I don't have pictures from 30 years ago.

Stop by any local major car dealer.  Ask the service manager who they use for vinyl repairs.   They most likely have several "vinyl repair" specialists on call and usually are happy to give you a referral.

On any given weekday there may even be one of these specialists on site doing some work.  Many also do striping, paintless dent removals and/or paint chip repairs, so they move around from dealer to dealer doing all of these type repairs.  A lot of times I see them around here working under one of those pop-op tents to get some shade.

I had one guy come by my place and repair a seat and a huge hole in a door panel.  You couldn't even locate the repairs when he finished, the color (black) and texture was that good.
