Spiff, the entire frame would have been extended in some way. It's about 15 or so inches longer than any 720 frame Nissan made. They likely cut the frame in the middle, leaving all the bed mounts, axle, and fuel tank in place and just moved that whole section back. Other options exist but that would be the most simple.

I don't know. Look at how short the front of the bed is.

If I could get one of these crew cabs, I would seriously consider building a Datsun again.

Just to be sure we're all discussing the same truck, this one is a stretched frame. In front of the wheel arch is more than a foot of bed. It's a bed from a king cab. Technically a short bed, but by the wheel arch location you can tell it's not from a single cab short bed. In my first post I called it a long bed, but that is a misnomer. While long for a quad cab, it is not an actual 720 long bed.

Factory quad cabs have no bed in front of the wheel arch. Nissan simply cut the bed shorter and extended the cab backward.

Check out the bed length in this photo. That's how they were all built.

I've never found a picture of a factory quad cab with smooth side bed on it actually. All of them that I've looked at have the external hooks on the bed unless they are modified.

But I also think it might be funny to build a single cab with a tiny quad cab bed, shorten the wheel base to fit and everything. Be like one of those tiny Suzuki samurai trucks I've seen. :)

My apologies for resurrecting this ancient post but I've been pondering something about these crew/dual cabs that I don't think is worth starting a whole new post for. If you guys had to guess. How many crew cabs do you guys reckon exist currently in the U.S. ? I purchased an 84 4x4 crew cab from a friend recently.
