GoGoGo
What a scandalous title B) However I do want your thoughts and options! I have a Odyssey PC680 that I want to mount and connect in the 510 but am hoping to think of something a little more creative and hidden rather than mounting it in the typical area of the trunk. Here is what I have thought of and my current feelings: Rear right hand side of the trunk (see pic) - Keeps the weight pretty low but I would have to drill holes in the trunk floor then visually it definitely doesn't stay hidden when the trunk is open but this might be the best overall option. Above the fuel tank where the package tray is right now - There are mount points that will a little work I could mount the battery on plywood and attach to where the package tray would attach kinda like what Busta did to mount an amp. Would still provide easy access for jumping/charging and would be hidden and not sure how I should feel about a battery on top of a fuel tank. Inside the car where the front passengers feet would go on the firewall - Don't like the idea of drilling into the firewall where in the other side the screws would be sticking out into the engine compartment. Now it's your turn. Any good opinions/ideas? Ryan Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
wtf is Odyssey PC680? Looks like side mount for battery?? 2 Quote Link to comment
GoGoGo
It's a light-weight 15lb slim battery. You can see it in the picture with the side mount cover (black) on top of it. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
What about under the rear seat? Unless you constantly have passengers back there, what's the harm. Got a link to this battery, love the idea of a rear mount but I have a goon and it has to be clear back there. A slim would solve a lot of mounting problems. Quote Link to comment
john510
As small as that is why not just keep it in the engine compartment ? will it hang on the firewall above the starter ? 1 Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Under passenger seat... I put mine in a recessed box under my back seat, but I have a wagon. Im also using a barely bigger Deka ETX18L battery. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Why not under the trunk where you have it pictured? You could add a more readily accessible switch somewhere if you need to shut it off without having to crawl under the car. If you don't want to use through-bolts you could weld studs underneath, or spot weld a frame to the trunk floor. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Or weld studs or a cage to the firewall if you don't want through bolts there... Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Is it slim enough to fit between the fender and the lower A pillar? :D eg where the cowl vent hose comes out here: Quote Link to comment
INDY510
Do you remember the 3 digit color code on your old 510 Matt?? ... I want my PC680 battery upside down, above the passenger's feet, behind the dash Quote Link to comment
fritzdixxon
On a wagon that would tuck nicely behind the rear wheel in the void behind the uhpostry card, put a little door in the card so you could attach leads if a charge or boost is needed. Quote Link to comment

I thought about doing that on mine, but a few things stopped me. Longer battery cables which increases resistance, hurts starting, remedied by increasing battery cable size. The other problem, you now have to cross the battery cable from the drivers side to the passenger side, not a huge deal, but more hassle. And finally, under the rear seat keeps the battery lower, and its still easy to get to by lifting the rear seat up. Here is the differenece between the PC680 and the battery I went with. datzenmike
Jacob it says non spillable but is it? and how are you mounting yours? Upright? Quote Link to comment

If it was stamped onto the core support I don't have any closeup pics, and all the old stickers had been spray painted over, and I used too strong a solvent to clean them off, taking the OG writing with it :S Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Jacob it says non spillable but is it? and how are you mounting yours? Upright? Its from Deka, which is East Penns main brand, who happens to be the largest bettery maker in the world I do believe. Why would they print it on the battery and have it be a lie? Its spill proof/leak proof. Its a battery all over the internet being used in cars, mounted in all sorts of configurations. Its actually meant for motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and Jetskis, things which rarely stay upright. Its been mounted sideways in my car for long while now, no issues. Its an AGM... aint battery technology great? its suggested you dont mount it upside down, but people have without issues... Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
I mount mine in a gimbal just to be sure Quote Link to comment

Lots of things are 'maintenance free' 'easy open' 'hands free' but are not. You have one and so are the expert to me, so I ask. Quote Link to comment
freetheoranges
Mount it in the engine bay. Quote Link to comment
tr8er
Mount it in the engine bay. Yup. There's a dope little shelf right over and to the front of the passenger front wheel well in the engine bay. Super close to the starter, and very easy to get to if you need a jump. Try it. It's kinda a perfect spot for a battery. (Pro tip: you can buy a bigger battery to get more starts. There's plenty of room there) 3 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I need that space on my 710. The battery is right up against the lamps. Was hoping to install projector lamps. Quote Link to comment
GoGoGo
All great ideas! I guess I should have stated that I am trying to clean up the engine bay and would like to reduce wiring and install of any additional items so no battery in engine compartment. I might try under the passenger seat if it is slim enough. Definitely don't want to make it too hard to jump so I don't think under the fender would work or behind the dash either. thisismatt
You could run some stud terminals to a more convenient location in that case. 1 Quote Link to comment
GoGoGo
So I went to see if the PC680 would fit underneath the passenger front seat (E30 sport seats) and it does. So I am thinking that is going to be the final resting spot. Makes it fairly accessible and easy to jump or charge as I can slide the seat forward to get easy access. I'll document the process in my build thread. Thanks for all the suggestions!!!! 3 Quote Link to comment
freetheoranges
What gauge of wire are you going with/ where do you get it from? If you were running the battery from the trunk would you increase the gauge for an increased length? Quote Link to comment

Cable is of good quality. 1 Quote Link to comment
