Evaded
I bought a L20b for my 70 Goon. The L20b came out of a 2 door 510. The L20b also came with a Centerforce dual friction clutch. The clutch was mounted and to the engine which was mounted to a 5 speed tranny. Will my tranny/Bell/ Fork/Bearing (off my 70 4spd) work for my L20b/clutch combo? I have the 5 speed in my garage which I picked up with the engine. The Tranny is not mine. I can see that the throwout bearing is larger in diameter than the one from my 4speed. will it work? sorry newb. Eric Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
why dont you use the whole same set up. or match what was in the car with what you have. meaning see if same shit MOFO. 200sx had a 200mm but slightly diffternt diaphram height 510 has 200mm but a different height but same as a Roadster (200mm also and the bearing& T/O collar same L20s came in 200mm and 225 mm (uses a whole another set up) Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It's all right eric. We'll figure this out. Diameter of the throwout bearing has nothing to do with how well it fits or works. Your stock 510 4 speed and bearing will work on the new L20B clutch, if the collar (or housing) that holds it to the clutch arm is the same length as the one that is on that 5 speed. Or just remove it from the 5 speed and use it on yours. Don't mix them up when comparing them. 2 Quote Link to comment
LenRobertson
I don't know what Centerforce uses for the collar the TO bearing is pressed onto, if it is a standard Datsun part or possibly from a newer Nissan model. The TO collar must be the correct dimension to match the height of the clutch pressure plate. Using the TO bearing and collar from the 5-speed that the L20b was bolted to sounds like what you need to do, unless whoever ends up with the 5-speed really objects to that idea. Depending on what clutch the 5-speed ends up being used with there is a good chance the TO collar will be the wrong dimension anyway. If you can't rob the TO and collar from the 5-speed, here is a link to collar dimensions so you can find one that matches whatever is on the 5-speed and presumably works with the Centerforce.: http://datsun510.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6980&title=225mm-and-240mm-clutch-t-2fo-bearing-sleeve-specs&cat=3129 http://datsun510.com/showphoto.php?photo=6981&title=200mm-clutch-t-2fo-bearing-sleeve-specs&cat=3129 And pressure plate heights if that is of any use to you: http://datsun510.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6979&title=datsun-pressure-plate-comparison&cat=3129 Len 1 Quote Link to comment
