Datsun Mechanic Shops?

Hey guys,

I'm back and have the same problems haha. So I've taken my 510 Goon to a few shops because I need an engine rebuild. I have internal cylinder problems, and a cracked head. I can't seem to find a shop that can help in the rebuild process. I live in Orange county so if anyone has a place in orange county or the LA and San Diego area let me know. An engine swap is also on my mind, right now I'm rocking an L20B. Let me know what your thoughts are because i need a little help..

Research, research research. Learn to do the work yourself. The sum total of all human knowledge is on U tube. Get a factory service manual (FSM) or download it. Don't pay some dick $70 an hour with your hard earned min. wage money. Fuck that's a day for every hour he wastes to learn how to fix your Datsun, do it yourself. Read one of the many builds featured here in the Project Datto section. You don't learn paying someone to do it. What you learn stays forever and you can take it with you. Buy tools every paycheck. They pay for themselves every time you use them and if you fix someone else's project can even make money.

Are you looking to rebuild your engine, or purchase a rebuilt engine? If you have a cracked head, do you need to source a new head?

I know NorCal is not close to SoCal, but Busta Nut here on ratsun rebuilds these engines with some regularity and he works out of a shop somewhere in northern California. If you can pull your engine yourself, might be worth the trip. And there is always Troy Ermish Racing.

But if you have the time, it's definitely worth it to learn to do it yourself. But it can also be a long frustrating road, so I understand if you have no real desire to start on that trip.

Thanks for the responses everyone, you've all refueled my inspiration to get the build underway on my own instead of going to a shop. I have a book coming that has to deal with datsuns and L20b engines. The first thing is research so I'm going to start there and get into the build. If any of you have advice about the rebuild itself please let me know before I start. And thank you to the Ratsun Family!

Well you are in the 510/1600 forum and Datsun Flyer started this topic on shops. Somewhat vague title which I usually change to make it easier for members to select what they will open and read and those that don't interest them. Anyway a little reading shows it concerns mechanical shops. By all means if you want to contribute to that subject you are very welcome.

If you are looking for a different kind of shop I encourage you to start one on that subject. I'll bet there are more than a few people who would like to know of some local body shops that are trustworthy and do good work..
