datzenmike
When the pedal is depressed on a cold engine, the choke closes and the plastic fast idle cam is free to drop down and block the throttle from closing. The fast idle cam has steps on it and when extremely cold will force a faster idle that reduces in stages as the choke warms up. As the choke slowly opens, a linkage pulls the fast idle cam up and up and finally out of the way of the throttle and it can then close properly to it's warm idle setting. Quote Link to comment

MattC280Z
Well nonetheless I appreciate it. I bit the bullet and ordered a manual choke kit. Cold starts fine now. Also might do a write up on installation. Quote Link to comment
