heywier427
I don't see them made for our cars, or an easy way to do it. If I put them in the rad. support, they will hit the skin of the hood, not any of the bracing. Anyone else's hood do the same? I have new rubber hood bumpers that are located on the inside of the engine bay/fender. Maybe I can shim them up a bit? I adjusted the hood latch so it catches as low/tight as possible with no improvement. Taking suggestions. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Those rubber bumpers on the sides of the fenders help locate and support the hood. If shimmying they aren't set right yet. the two adjustable ones at the front are more for support when 'slamming' the hood down Quote Link to comment
heywier427
Possible to provide a picture of the 2 at the front? I don't see provisions on (either) of my cars for them. Nor do I see them in searching. Usually the point of the front 2 are to balance the hood from doing the "wobble" (and fitment up/down alignment) because that's what happens when is only point of location is in the center of the hood, aka. the hood latch. My side mounts or wedges are fully seated. I was only suggesting shimming the furthest front ones upward to help put pressure on the hood when closed. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
There is one on each side and two on each side from '71. There should be a thin slot for them or they are glued? on? Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
I had a similar problem with the engine hood [bonnet] on my RL411. I bought 521 hood "bumpers" / spacers and with a few slashes of an Xacto knife turned them in to respectable substitutes for the original / functional spacers. Buy what's available and whittle away the excess until it fits! You need imagination and determination to keep a 40 or 45 year old Japanese vehicle on the road! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If this just started doing this, hood wobble could indicate a tire balance problem. (weight fell off or damage) You won't get rid of all wobble but maybe some. Sedan rubber bumpers... 65157-21000 for the center ones all years. 65159-N2100 for the front side ones '72 and '73. Can't find the adjustable rad support bumpers. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I had a hood it was rotted where the top lach was and the rib bracing the welds broke. Going fast it would buffett the hood Rubber mine were worn out put I got some Permatex black rtv and build it back up let dry a day and has been fine Quote Link to comment
heywier427
Thanks for all the suggestions. I will look into this further, as I've only gotten the car up to 50mph on my test runs. Tires feel balanced. This car has been sitting for 20+ years, then went into a extremely poor restoration, by a person who should have been spit out. Ive been working on it the past year, and its damn near show ready. I will figure out something. Thanks again. Quote Link to comment

heywier427
Thanks, You can see interior pics in the "new center console possibility" thread. The entire car is following that awesomeness. :) My garage is packed with customers stuff, and we are over a year out on scheduled work, but I find time to play with my stuff imbetween. https://www.facebook.com/pages/RevolutionMotorsportsCt/228751380505548?sk=photos_stream&ref=page_internal Quote Link to comment

heywier427
Thanks for the link. I had come across that in my searches. The only problem I see with using those points (they would be perfect), is that it is not hitting any bracing on the hood, rather just the skin. I would assume over time it would leave dimples in the hood. I will pm Busta and see how his are going, as its been approx. 6 months since he did it. Thanks again. And mike, yea f/b. There are hundreds of photos there. None of my car, but hundreds non the less. I don't think you have to sign in to see the pictures? Just click the link. Quote Link to comment

hobospyder
Draker is included in that half of ratsun. Might be more like 3/4 of ratsun 1 Quote Link to comment
freetheoranges
For the fender rubber spacers, I just took a stroll through the PnP and pulled ones from cars whose slit in the bay was a similar length, width. Errr you got a pic of what you got? Quote Link to comment
Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
I don't think you can really eliminate all of the hood wobble. I've never been able to get mine to stay still, and it's as tight as I can get the latch to hold. My bumper are basically brand new too. My dad's always had the same issue with all his 510s, so much so that he and all his friends refer to it as "the 510 hood wobble of death", though I've only heard of one or two cases where it actually resulted in the hood coming undone and flying up while driving. heywier427
I fully intend to drive this car like a raving lunatic, so the problem is going to be addressed :) If its doing it at 50, its not gonna get any better at 100. 1 or 2 cases is 1 too many! I will post up what ever I come up with. Thanks. Edit: Will post a pic of the engine bay in a day or so. Have a freshly painted 8 sec Honda :( drying under my lift! Quote Link to comment

Son_of_a_Datsun_Guy
Yes you can. B) True, but I was getting at the inability to do it with stock mountings. Hood pings are the obvious solution. Those are better looking than most, do you know what brand they are? Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
True, but I was getting at the inability to do it with stock mountings. Honestly, I've never had trouble when I used new side rubbers and a well adjusted latch, but every car is different, so... Those are better looking than most, do you know what brand they are? They are offered by lots of companies. I just make sure to get the ones that are all aluminum so there's no rust snail trail on my paint like the chrome steel ones. And on that note, don't use the supplied screws. Use aluminum rivets (or stainless screws) for the same reason. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLUE-ALUMINUM-RACING-SECURITY-HOOD-LOCK-RING-PINS-PAIR-UNIVERSAL-/151773290218?hash=item2356649eea&vxp=mtr If you search on ebay "aluminum hood pins" you'll see lots of these, in several colors and in just plain aluminum. 1 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Oh, and in case it wasn't obvious, step #2 is the most important step. When you install the pins, get some clear silicone hose that slides over the pin. Then trim it down to where it holds the hood up to the right level and you eliminate the wobble. Quote Link to comment
heywier427
If hood pins were the only way to go, they would be installed reversed, with the pins going down into engine bay. Hidden, so no one could see them. Ever. Maybe glue another set of side bumpers closer to the front of the fenders/hood. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I would run without a hood before I would ruin my Datsun with hood pins. There are lots of rubber suggestions above for fixing this. 5 Quote Link to comment
