Dat project!

Im new here. new to forums, in fact. 

 

ive just bought myself a 1980 Datsun 510

should be a fun little project. it need a bit of work and tlc. obviously the body needs love. the front brakes are non existent. i plan to rebuild the z20 engine and roll with it untill the rest of the car around it is nice. then id like to put a ka24 and 5 speed into it.

 

ive done a bit of reaserch and have a plan but as with any project ive got much to learn about this little car. and many questions. but thatll come later.

The first one was the rotary engine but i dont recommend it.I recommend on nissan engine,as you were mention. Main point i show you those picture is how well they mix up (modified)the 510 with simple wide body-kit and very nice red color paint even though without bodykit like the second picture one.

 

That was just my taste,if you have your own favorite modified 510 cars or even picture that had in your wishlist,feel free to post at here,we glad to gave some good advice too.By the ways,Welcome to Ratsun :thumbup:

i have a few questions that im having a hard time finding the answers to.

 

My biggest question is: are there any differences in the suspension and brakes from the older 510s and the A10s?

i ask because i want to convert the rears to disks with this https://www.californiadatsun.com/brake-conversion-upgrade-kits/rear-drilled-rotors-maxima-brake-set-510.htmlkit and i want to make sure itll work before i buy it. id also like to get the Techno Toy Tuning front and rear coilovers, and i have the same concern about that.

There is not much the same between the late 510 (A10) and the early PL510.  Yours has a live rear axle, like a truck, whereas the early 510 had independent semi-trailing arm suspension with independent half-shaft axles, so the rear suspension is completely different and I doubt any brake or suspension swaps made for the original 510 will fit yours.  Your front struts and brakes are probably better than the stock early 510, but again an upgrade for the early 510 probably won't fit your struts unless you're talking about swapping the entire strut & brake assembly, then likely any upgrade that uses the later 280zx/200sx may work.
