Humboldt
I got the seal SKF p/n 13907 from Napa. I am trying to get the old one out. The instructions: "use screwdriver to get old seal out" are working about as well as "Use finger to wipe butt". I got that springy thing and a bunch of rubber hacked out. What am I doing wrong? I can see with a flashlight that there is a metal ring with two slots at 180 degrees flush to the tranny, Is this where I stick the screwdriver and twist? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Just pry it out but don't gouge or scratch the inner side of the aluminum case. 1 Quote Link to comment
Humboldt
Thanks Mike I will try some more. Also, I think the NAPA guy sold me the wrong part. I gave him Datsun part number 32136 E0100 (from another Ratsun thread) and he gave me SKF pn 13907. No springy thing and looks too shallow. Quote Link to comment
Draker
Harbor freight coolant hose puller works great for these. In fact I don't even use it for pulling hoses really.. just for pulling shaft seals. 1 Quote Link to comment

No springy thing and looks too shallow. 32136-E0100 is for the 510 but the later 32136-U0100 is also listed as fitting it and the Roadster/240/260/280z/610/710/B210 and 620/710 D21, A10/S10/S110/S12/S13... 280zx/300zx, Exterra... probably easierto list what it does not fit. NAPA 13907 works aslo. The reason for it being thinner? It allows the new seal to be driven into the transmission tail farther. Now the new seal rids on a fresh unused section of the driveshaft spline for a better seal. Be sure to grease the seal lips so it doesn't tear when pushing your shaft in or start up dry. 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
try to find DOUBLE lip seal. the SKF is single if I remember right . the double is better, Mine leaked right away 1 Quote Link to comment
Humboldt
I got the seal out. I just had to hold my jaw right. Going to NAPA to return the wrong seal. Thanks again for the help! I hope to drop the motor in Sunday. BTW, does anyone actually use those breather things on the tranny? I ordered one from a Nissan dealer in Mississippi. I think most people must just plug them. Humboldt
I took the 13907 back to NAPA and got a Altrom KP Gasket brand made in Japan 211 1056 with Nissan pn 32136 U0100.. It is the deeper one. Maybe I should have kept the 13907. Oh well . . . Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Do not ever plug the trans breather. The transmission gets VERY hot and the air inside expands and will push oil out through the front seal. A new breather is a good idea. Good to know about the E0100 and the U0100. Thanks. Chevy front engine replacement seals for the timing cover are this way. The crank often can wear a small groove in the crank snout and a recessed seal puts it on new metal. 2 Quote Link to comment
Humboldt
So do people just leave the breather hole open and let it splooge any overflow tranny fluid or does everybody use the weird breather apparatus? At this point I'm just curious because I already bought the thing and plan to use it. Quote Link to comment
Draker
Mine is like a 90+ degree pipe that presses into the top of the tranny. I use it. It's suggested that the transmission breaths unless you like blowing out oil seals. Quote Link to comment
Draker
The breather is at the top. it's not going to leak oil from up there. Quote Link to comment
