bilzbobaggins
The fenders on my 70 521 are rather shitty. Ones got two tons of bondo in it and the other appears the same. I acquired two very nice bamboo tan???fenders from a later 521. Mine have round reflectors and the other set has the rectangular ones. I know I can run them on my truck and they will fit but my memory keeps telling me I have read on here there are suttle differences. Am I smoking the rock? 1 Quote Link to comment
uberkevin
Rocks. Unless it's a 520 finder. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Front fenders? May of '68 (beginning of '69 model year) and up should be the same but for the marker lamps but these are easy to swap or wire. The '70 L16 powered PL521 was the first year for the DOT mandated rectangular amber side markers. Possibly yours were previously changed due to front end damage? 1 Quote Link to comment

Nissan fenders skirted the requirements and provideed non-perforated replacements units! The penetrations were up to the customer! I should know! I was able to "modify" a 521 fender to fit my 1967RL411! 1 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
Plus....the title was dated when it sold, not when it was made. Could have been made late '69 and sold in '70. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
'69s were all J13 powered (L521) '70s were L16 powered (PL521) 1 Quote Link to comment
bilzbobaggins
Beats me. It's got reflectors front and rear and is l16 powered from the factory. I've always thought it was a very early 70 model. Maybe they still had round reflectors on the assembly line. I don't have any paperwork with me but I believe it was sold December 21 1969. 1 Quote Link to comment
gene knight
My tan 521 has reflectors and it is a 69 model with a L16 according to data plate 1 Quote Link to comment

July '69 on should be a '70 model year. I have info and a picture of up to Sept '68 as having the 'arrow' style (with lamps) side markers. Oct. '68 to June '69 with round reflector. Presumably with a lamp inside as there were L & R whereas the rears were just red and the same.. 1 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
I don't think they started the model year changes that early back then. The arrow style marker was never an option in the states. Most of the info/pictures out there is based on overseas models. Things were a lot looser back then.....sold that late in the year, they could have easily dated it when the registration was file after the first of the year. Maybe the sale happened Dec 21, but delivery was delayed for options or location. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Canadian 521 were different. I had a '71. Pretty sure it had the rectangle red rears and amber fronts. I have a picture of a J13 521 in Saskatchewan with the arrows on it, so we got them. Mike, this is the same vast wrecking yard I took that picture I sent you of the old rusty cars 2 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
I suspected that you did......so non-US would be more accurate than overseas. :) 1 Quote Link to comment
Oregon_PLG222
Look at the vin plate for manufacture date. I have one built in july 69 and one built in August 69; they both have reflectors. I have another built in 70 with lights. 1 Quote Link to comment
