cruznude
Okay, so I bought some 14x6 slotted mags the other day and was wondering what is the most tire I can go and still be within the fenderwell of a 79 kc 620. I was thinking a P205 but not sure. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Height and width? Increasing height (diameter) will throw the speedometer off and effectively this is like reducing the differential gears making the performance sluggish. Diameter can be kept near stock by careful selection of 60 or 50 series tires. Ahis should be considered before buying rims. The biggest factor is the offset or back spacing. This is where the center line of the rim is in relation to the wheel mounting surface (WMS) If the offset is too negative, wheel center line away from vehicle, the outer edge of the rim may already be outside the fender lip. A rim with too much positive offset can rub suspension or frame on turns or bumps. There are on line calculators for this and all you do is make a few measurements and plug in the numbers. (I know, you have to do this yourself) Never, never, never have to make the vehicle fit the rims. Rims should be selected to fit the vehicle to allow proper tire clearance. This is like falling in love with a beautiful girl and then finding out she's high maintenance, a total bitch, and YOU have to make all the changes in order to keep seeing her. With the torsion bars raised I managed 235s but it was an unknown chev or ford 6 bolt rim. 31 x 10.5 rubbed even with a 4" body lift. In addition the steering effort went way up and I began parking in places I could just drive away from without having to arm wrestle the steering. Quote Link to comment
67_1600
From research I did a couple years ago when looking for tires to fit on slightly smaller rims (5.5"), most sites that I ran across that gave maximum widths for different rim widths showed 205 for a 6" rim. 1 Quote Link to comment
cruznude
Yea right on! I thought a 205 also. Some bfg p205's. just wanted to make sure cause this tire guy wants me to get 225's and I know thats to big. 205's are max. Thats just what I wanted to hear. That made my day. Quote Link to comment
tr8er
You should really not get too excited. 67's offset is not known. Your offset could easily throw your 205's into the fender or strut tower. Quote Link to comment

A 620KC does not have strut towers. ^_^ Our shop truck has 195s on a 14x6 zero offset and it fits fine, even at a fairly low ride height. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It all depends on the rim. I seem to remember having 225s and later some 235s on my 620. That's 8.25 and 9.25" wide by 28.8" high. Again unknown 15" rims and truck was cranked up. 31x10.5 did not fit without rubbing on bumps and turns, even with a 4" body lift. I suppose with enough lift any tire/rim combo will work. Not it doesn't have strut towers and wouldn't hit a strut tower anyway... it would hit the side of the strut tube. Quote Link to comment
