dgi
1972 PL510 Can someone tell me how to remove the traverse bolt from the LCA's bushing, please. I can not get the large nut on the LCA side of the arm to turn at all. Must be overlooking something. Thanks in advance. Quote Link to comment

I can get the large nut on the LCA side of the arm to turn at all. Must be overlooking something. Thanks in advance Do you mean, "I can get the large nut on the LCA side of the arm to turn at all", NOT turn at all? Use an impact wrench or a very long breaker bar. Quote Link to comment
dgi
I meant "can NOT get it to turn at all". I've used a breaker bar and an impact wrench. I cleaned all the grease and crude away and now I can see that the bolt has a slot in it, but my old eyes don't see any locking method. Probably is one that I'm just not seeing. Still need help! datzenmike
I think transverse is more apt than traverse. Traverse is a verb: to travel across (something). Transverse is to be situated or extended across something. 1 Quote Link to comment
dgi
I stand corrected! Transverse it is... Still isn't loose though. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I've looked through my manuals and they all say just to simply remove the nuts. The tightening torque is 67-72 ft lbs. That's moderately tight. Head bolts are less than 45 on a 510. Longer bar? Lefty loosey... righty tighty? 1 Quote Link to comment
dgi
Thanks for the reply Mike. Agrees with the manual I have too. I'm quitting for the night, maybe I'll be more successful in the daylight. dgi Quote Link to comment
q-tip
Sounds like you need a bigger hammer. 1 Quote Link to comment

Guest Rick-rat
Just did mine a couple of days ago, they were extremely tight and had a little rust, if you have a socket and breaker bar, get a piece of pipe on the end of it 1 Quote Link to comment
scooter
Go to the gym and work out your arms for 6 months, then try again. Mine were a bitch too. I had a half inch flex bar with a chunk of pipe on it to break it loose, then 1/2 inch impact full bore. Quote Link to comment
q-tip
It's a bitch, when we did mine I was actually picking the car up off of the jack stands....soak them with kroil and try again. Quote Link to comment
yellow510
same issue. driver side was easy to disassemble. passenger side bolt was seized to the inner bushing collar. spray wd40 (or similar) generously. i was able to get it to break free the following day. 1 Quote Link to comment
dgi
I ended up taking the LCA to a machine shop and they had to split the nut. In the process they lost or destroyed the fender washer with the locking tab. Hopefully a standard fender washer with a new M14 1.5 nylok nut will work. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
I would get a new/used correct washer. The washer needs the tab because the inner race of the bushing is designed to bite into the washer & crossmember and not turn. Quote Link to comment
