620 right side turning signal/brake failure

Recommended Posts

Hey guys got my 620 a couple of weeks ago and finally got it running, however I have noticed that while the left side tail light assembly works perfectly. The right side brake light and turning signal does not work.

When looking at the harness itself I did notice that the right side rear flasher's wire was cut, (not in the taillight but on the side of the bed) not sure why or how but it was. Ive yet to solder it back. However when I activate the turning signal to indicate right, the green arrow inside lights up, as does the front flasher under the grille,(but doesn't blink) but the tail light refuses to do so.

For reference I pulled out the turning signal switch and cleaned the contacts as mentioned in another post. It didn't work, I did notice that when I activate the hazard lights the green arrows and both front lights blink, but only the rear left blinks.

If anyone can help me with this it will be much appreciated as I am in love with this truck but don't want a ticket while driving it, lol

The same flasher works both sides, so if it works the left then it will work the right side also. The 4 way flasher is separate from the turn flasher and works all four corners.

If the turn OR the 4 ways don't work then you can swap the flasher unit just to see if this gets them going. If the problem switches then the flasher is at fault.

Early flasher units are load dependent, in other words it needs the current draw from front and back bulbs to work. If one bulb burns out usually the dash lamp will come on and stay on indicating a problem. These old flashers will flash faster when the added load of a trailer is added to the circuit. Later flashers are electronic and will flash at the same rate no matter how many bulbs are used.

Okay thanks,

Well I spliced the wires back to their original positions, then found the drivers side also had been cut! Spliced them too, both bed side lights work, but still having the same issues. No change.

Does the brake light work on the right side???

Does the tail light work on the right side when the head lights are turned on???

Does the back up light work on the right side???

The reverse light, and center light work, as well as the one filament in the 1157 bulb. But neither the brake, nor turning signal will come on. I'm going to take pics for you guys this afternoon when I get off work. was going to last night but forgot to.

If any lights come on then the ground is fine and working.

The 620 is an odd duck. The brake and the turn signal share the same bulbs. In normal operation the brakes just work the brake lamps, but when the turn signal is used the brake light for that side is disconnected and the turn flasher connected to make them flash. When the turn signal returns to the off position the brake is re-connected.

I had a wire come loose (un-soldered) inside the turn signal switch just behind the steering wheel. A simple blob of solder fixed everything.

Okay issue is solved. The plug to the right cluster had gotten the dust and dirt from the mine roads the PO drove down daily had gotten into the far back plug.

This one, after i pulled it and sprayed cleaner into it the lights worked fine, turning and brake. I'm a happy man!

Well, I drove around last night, and noticed a slight smell of burning wires. The plug for the tail lights going into the fuse panel had melted slightly. And now my tail lights don't come on at all, one bulbs filament will just slightly glow. Other than that nothing. But the tiring signals still work
