Draker
Air injection tube.. Quote Link to comment
quadjr4
Thanks...... If I have a big crack in it, can it be repaired or does it need to be replaced? Quote Link to comment
Draker
Depends if you need it to pass smog. Otherwise delete the whole thing! 1 Quote Link to comment
quadjr4
I need it to pass smog :-/ Quote Link to comment
DanielC
I thought older than 1975 was smog exempt. 1 Quote Link to comment
quadjr4
67 and older in az Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It doesn't need to be tested but like all cars the emissions equipment is supposed to be on the car. Federal offense to remove or alter the factory emissions equipment but policing and prosecution is left to the state who can't be bothered basically. Quote Link to comment
quadjr4
Would jb weld work? Quote Link to comment
quadjr4
Ok, my next question... I've replaced all my gaskets, would the crack in that cause a exhaust leak sound when I drive? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yes. Each one of those tubes opens just behind the exhaust valves. Probably a ticking sound that gets louder as you step on the gas. 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Find manifold without the air injection set-up? None the wiser. Do you still have the air pump equipped? And it still works? Quote Link to comment
quadjr4
Yes! There's a ticking sound that gets louder on acceleration. Closer look at the crack. How would I fix this? Quote Link to comment
quadjr4
And no I don't think there's an air pump. Other end is capped off.... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well then. Trim the big tube off of the individual tubes. Crimp the ends of the little tubes with vice-grips and roll them up to seal. Or trim shorter and weld them up. Or remove the tubes completely and plug the exhaust manifold holes with these... Quote Link to comment
quadjr4
Awesome thanks! So, I don't even need the tube? I can just eliminate it all together? And it'll still pass smog? ... Hopefully lol Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
There should be no smog test for pre '75 vehicles but smog equipment should be there and complete by law. As stated, very unlikely you will ever be subjected to a visual check. Quote Link to comment
quadjr4
Ok thanks. And yeah it's 67' and newer in Arizona for smog. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Seems excessive compared to Kalifornia. You have to pass an actual test? Or just a visual? I'd check up on this. If someone told you this they could be wrong. Find out. Because without the air pump on, that split in the pipe is the least of your worries. Quote Link to comment

Draker
If you need the air pump I might still have one. I had the tube also but I cut it to bits when removing that crap. Quote Link to comment
Draker
Not needed to pass the sniff test.. but visuals... you might need it. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Not needed to pass the sniff test.. but visuals... you might need it. That's why I said find a manifold that never had the air injection stuff added. Quote Link to comment
quadjr4
It's passed smog before. Tags expired last December. I'm pretty sure the lady I bought it from hasn't done anything to it in quite some time. (Or removed anything) I'm amusing it's not a visual test but I'm not 100%, just a sniff test. I guess I'll find out!!! Quote Link to comment
