1.5 inch is only a 38mm valve and 240z engines came with 42mm (1.65 inch) from the factory with smaller pistons than an L20b I believe. I would think you could easily go to as big as 44mm (1.75 inch) and be fine. I usually install 44mm intakes on my L16 engines, but I run a big camshaft.

I also open my ports to 1.5 inch on my L16 engine.

Someone else chime in if I'm wrong.

The 219 head was fitted to the Japanese market L16SSS engine having a special cam (similar to the later stock L20B cam) twin SU carbs and flattop pistons for a compression of 9.3

Yes it will easily work on an L20B but will give the best performance with similar fittings as the L16SSS. Multiple side draft carbs and over size L28 flattops. It's a bit much on a stock L20B and really won't show it true potential.... excellent breathing at high RPMs.

What i got is a L20B with 280zx flat top pistons. I have a choice between dual SUs and dual Dellorto 40s. The height of the head is exactly 107.0 mm so I believe it has been milled approx 1mm.

That is most excellent news.

Yes, stock thickness is 4.248", I get 0.035" removed. Almost 1mm, which is a huge amount removed. This will really raise the compression on a closed chamber head. A very rough estimate...just over 12 to 1

How good is your fuel up there? Might wanna cc that head and get the compression where you want it for the fuel your using.

If mikes right that might be a little much for pump gas, but otherwise, hell ya thatll wail

That compression ratio will need quite a large cam to use up that cylinder pressure. If parts availability is an issue, it may be hard to find a cam suitable for that piston/head combination.

If it were my choice, I would find a dished piston or just bite the bullet and bore it to 89mm, use a KA24DE dished piston (with the top machined to fit), a set of N85 rods and have myself a 2200 long rod. That would be a good use for that head.
