i am attempting to use a14 shortblock with h89 a15 head

want to know of any issues perhaps with pistons

a14 is possibly 1978 and has h72 head but missing thermostat neck/ air pump passage etc

want to run match box/ h89 head from 81

datsun 1200 forum says chambers are similar and h89 should fit

need confirmation and or advice before going forward

http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=A-series_Cylinder_Heads#H89The dish in the piston determines the compression ratio.

An A14 from a 78 B210 had center sump oil pan, you would need front sump oil pan and oil pickup tube! Matchbox dizzy will work. And something other than stock carb, H89 cylinder heads breathe very well!

I just read through that link. I love that guy. Who would put that much effort into the humble A series? I would!!!

But to my point. While reading through, I was reminded of the E series motor. I have seen E heads bolted onto A motors before. If I ever get another A motored Datsun (or 320 pickup) I am going to put an E motor in it. Talk about a screamer...!!!

There's a huge write up here on all the different heads in the Tech-Wiki here it is: A-Series Cylinder Heads.

The H95 is probably more ineffective than a stock round port head for racers as it has a huge restriction in the ports just at the major turn into the cylinders (okay that's probably an over-statement so don't take that one as gospel, but you get my drift). This was intended to create a swirl effect and it was used as an economy head. Don't try to port the H95 out to get rid of the restriction, you'll end up finding water, sooner than you think.

I throw these away, after removing the rocker assemblies-IF you are into mileage and NO GO, this is the head for you!
