Lockleaf
I'm working with a complete dash harness out of a 2wd 1982 720. I can identify everything on it from the wiring diagram I have except one bundle of wires. I'm almost 100% sure they are the radio, but any connector that was on them has been hacked off long ago. They are taped together from the factory about 6 inches down. This identification is based on a combination of what was used on later 720s and what jobs these colors of wires serve in the rest of the wiring diagram, plus some hefty guessing. Here's what I believe to be the correct identification of each wire. Someone please correct me if I have it wrong. 6 wires - Black/blue - ground Brown - switched power Red/blue - constant power Red/yellow - illumination Light green - speaker power + Light green/red - speaker power - It appears it was only wired for one speaker from the factory. The positive and negative could be backwards, I'm just spitballing on those. For anyone who's interested, I have the complete wiring harness, from headlights to taillights from this 82 720. I am planning on swapping most if not all of the wiring out of my newly obtained 71 510 wagon with this as some PO has rewired half the interior and all of the engine bay in random pieces of yellow and red wire with no way to distinguish them. It's all rather half assed. Build thread coming soon. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
720 harness on a 510? (not being judgmental here) The headlamp plugs will need the at least two of the low beam wires swapped around. The 720 used rectangular bulbs and the three wires are on different terminals. The 720 harness is for the use of an internally regulated alternator so a stock Datsun alternator before '78 won't work on this. Here's what I believe to be the correct identification of each wire. Someone please correct me if I have it wrong.6 wires -Black/blue - groundBrown - switched powerRed/blue - constant powerRed/yellow - illuminationLight green - speaker power +Light green/red - speaker power - Good enough. Yes one speaker Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Roger that DM. I know there will be a fair bit of finagle involved, but based on the condition of my 510 harness, I figured a complete harness I could reference a diagram for was better than trying to go from the hack job I have currently. I got the harness for free basically. When I pulled the z22 and trans, I was allowed to take anything else i wanted, so I figured why not. :-) thanks for confirming my radio harness.
