carbon canister, vent line from tank....????

Hey guys haven't been on in a while... the old bomb is running good..30 years long time to drive same truck...do you guys know how to check the vent line running from the top of the gas tank....It has a check valve  on top of the tank, then a line runs to a canister under the hood.  I think the check valve has been replaced at some point...the canister is stock...mechanic told me if I don't have a lot of pressure release when I take off the gas cap,  [which I don't]    then its probrobly venting ok.    only reason I ask is because my gas tank is leaking.   right where the 2 halves come togrther... at the rear of the tank....looked at it good and that is where it is leaking from....but its not sobad with the gas cap off.. and I have been letting the rear wheels sit on 2x8 boards in garage,  keeps the fuel towards the front of the tank... doesn't seem to leak at all when I do this.....probrably have to drive around with half tank or less for the rest of my life......

No...you need to fix/replace the tank.  That's money wasted every day and it adds up. The rear catches all the dirt and crap from the tires and stays wet longer... rusts out sooner. I soldered mine by filling the tank with water and standing on end so there was a bubble of air where the perforations were. Good sanding to bare metal, solder paste flux and tinning, then roll the solder on. To patch the dime size rot I snipped a piece of brass from an old rad and covered with solder. Works perfectly..

The check valve is to prevent fuel siphoning out the front in the event of a roll over.
