Eriks
Just swapped from L16 to L18 in my 510. I took the matchbox distributor from the old engine to the new engine and wiring to coil is just the same as before. But the new engine will not stop when ignition turned off. The engine just keep on running as if the ignition was on. How is this possible? The way I stop the engine is to disconnect the centre lead between coil and distributor. Also I notice a noise from the starter when switching off the ignition, the same noise as when using the starter motor when an engine is running. Appreciate all help solving this problem, thanks. DISLEXICDIME
was your old engine alternator externally regulated. Sounds like the new Alt is internally regulated Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
You can still run the internally regulated alternator by jumping two pairs of wires together. This eliminates the external regulator completely and is easy to do. Quote Link to comment
