Ka24e truck obd1 and obd2 differences

Recommended Posts

Ive searched on google and on here and cant find concrete information.  The motor on my 96 hardbody is going south as a woodpecker found its way in the motor and I found woodpecker shit (metal shavings)  in the oil filter.  I love this truck.  I cant afford a reman or new long block right know as money is pretty tight.

Ive found a couple hardbody obd1 motors.

Google search leads me to believe all I would have to do is swap over my intakes, front cover and dizzy to make this work.  Is this right?  Any holes for sensors or any shit gotta be shot in obd1 block and head?  Also know that the donor trucks are 2wd so my oil pickup and pan off of 4wd need to go on.

Help me please ka experts.

Thanks

Jeff

p.s.  forgive my posts.....its hard to get the thoughts to my fingers in a non random way

I thought only the ka24de was obd2..

Are you wanting to put a de intake on a Ka-e head?

I'd say just rebuild the motor.

If you don't have a blown hg everything should be fine, no machine shop moneys to spend maybe..

So tare your motor apart, check bearings and what not, full gasket set, so head off as well and slap it back together you'll be back on the road by the end of the weekend.. follow your book to the T!

96 97's were obd2.  Im just making sure that I can put my intakes and such on the earlier motors and be good to roll.  I will tear into the motor once its out and find out what happened.  If its reuseable it can be earmarked for my 521 down the road.  I really cant have it down and its 100 degrees here and rolling in the 521 dripping sweat is fun until I walk into work a sweaty mess.

What little I found said intakes, front cover and dizzy. Thanks for the pep talk on rebuilding the dang thing. I had wanted a 4x4 hardbody since they was new and I was a youngin in high school. It needs a lot to be nice again. People before me and me used it the right way, as a truck. Get the motor right, two window motors, ball joints, Leaf spring bushings, headliner, couple interior touch ups and an alignment. Be good as new. Lol. Just love the truck

physically, the obd1 and the obd2 KAe in the same.

the wiring, distributor guts and the throttle body and its components are going to differ.

we carbed a 97 and a 93 single cam, and when they are stripped down, they are the same engine.
