Anonymous Waffle
Found a wire on the main harness that gets power on ignition, but no clue what it goes to, does anybody know? Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
looks like coil wire Quote Link to comment
Skib
it should go to a fuseable link and then on to the ballast resister and part of it will split off to the fuse block (before the link) Ign sw > fuseable link > ballast resistor > + of coil Quote Link to comment
Anonymous Waffle
It comes out of the harness on the firewall, near the wiper motor and throttle switch, and coil wire is black with a blue stripe. This is on a 73' 510. Quote Link to comment
Skib
its before the black/blue, goes into the other side of the ballast. look at the coil and trace it back, youll see what were talking about. Quote Link to comment
Anonymous Waffle
I have the black/white and black/blue by the resistor and hooked up, and the unknown wire is completely too far to be anything to do with the coil. Quote Link to comment
Skib
Like I said, trace it back threw the diagram... It starts at the ignition switch, follow it and find out where else that wire goes... Quote Link to comment
Anonymous Waffle
Ive already traced it on my service manual and your photo, theres only one instance of a BW, and it only goes to the fuse block and the fusible link to resistor. Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
only other thing i can think of with that gauge and color is MAYBE tach wire? but there should also be a black and green and much longer .... is it a bullet connector or spade? Quote Link to comment
DanielC
Is there a problem with the car? Sometimes it is more economical to make a wiring harness with a few extra wires, and have that harness work in more than one model, than to make different harnesses for each minor variation of a car. The wire could also be for a option not on your car. Every PL521 wiring harness I have seen has four wires under the ashtray for the clock and radio. There are not that many 521 radios, or clocks. TENDRIL
yep i know there were starter relay options among other things Quote Link to comment

Heres my problem: This is the original wire harness that came with the car, and Im trying to get everything right, but theres no proper service manual for a 73' 510, Quote Link to comment
Anonymous Waffle
Also my car is a automatic which im converting to a manual Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You didn't say so I looked at some other posts... you have an automatic. Oh just a tad late. Maybe automatic related. The 3N71B had an electric kick down switch but it would only be powered when the pedal is floored. Quote Link to comment
Anonymous Waffle
The kickdown switch has 2 blue/black wires only Quote Link to comment
DanielC
This is going to sound harsh. You are worried about one single wire when you do not even have an engine and transmission in your car? Quote Link to comment
Anonymous Waffle
This is going to sound harsh. You are worried about one single wire when you do not even have an engine and transmission in your car? Still in the process of an entire engine tebuild, and not all the electronics are working. datsunaholic
Wild ass guess- it's the anti-dieseling solenoid wire. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Good enough for me. Idle cuts were on '72 1/2 on 510s.... Quote Link to comment
