Does anyone know what the floor temp indicator on the dash mean?

It's for catalytic equipped vehicles. They get hot, hotter than the exhaust that flows into them often. They use a catalyst to force unburned hydrocarbons in the exhaust to mix with oxygen (from an air injection into the exhaust manifold) and burn, producing heat. Normally this is a small amount but when the choke is on or if for other reasons the exhaust runs rich like a fouled plug it may over heat and become dangerously hot.
