720 no oil or charge light at startup

Recommended Posts

I recently got a 720 and I'm currently trying to sort out all the wiring.

Iv got lots of help so far from searching on this forum.

But I can't figure out why my charge light and my oil light don't come on when I first term on the ignition.

Iv checked the bulbs and the connection at the back of the dash and they seem fine. Anyone help would be greatly appreciated.

Well they are both supplied from the same fuse, however if it's blown you will have no turn signals, no auto choke heater and no seat belt chime. You can check it or better ... replace it. It's the fourth fuse over to the right from the far left side of the fuse box.

If the fuse is good then the plug in to the dash gauges is loose OR

I suppose it's possible that the oil pressure switch is unplugged/failed/broken and the alternator is also unplugged or failed.

I have turn signals and seat belt chime I'm not sure about the auto choke heater tho because it is really hard to start when it's cold.

The plug in the dash gauges looked good earlier when I checked it.

I will check the oil pressure switch and the alternator when I get a chance to try fix it again.

Thanks for the reply

The oil pressure switch in on the pass side of the block between the oil dip stick and the oil filter, (unfortunately) under the intake. The wire to it is Yellow/Green stripe. Ground it and the light will come on with the key on. If it does the sender is bad.

The oil green yellow wire was broken. I grounded it and the light came on. Then repaired it and connected it to the sender and the light doesn't come on so I'm going to order a new sender the weekend.

I still can't figure out the charge light tho.

The plug with the 2 wires into the alternator one white the other white and blue are plugged in

When the ignition on I'm getting over 12 volts on the white wire but just 2 on the white and blue one.

When I have it running I'm getting 14 volts on both of them.

Unplug the alternator two wire plug, and ground the White/Blue wire with the engine off and the ignition ON. The charge light should light up.

The oil pressure lamp and the charge lamp are both powered from the same source so if the oil light works the charge should. If it still does not light up it may be burned out or there is an open between the alternator and the lamp.
