Datsun510Purist6spdV8
Instead of buying the mainstream front kit, $219, has anyone used a cheaper ebay kit for a different vehicle and adapted it? As long as the kit is meant for a 2" diameter strut there should not be any issues, right? Since my motor is heavier than most I will be running springs in the 250-300# range, any recommendations? My suggestion... Read Ratsun more. $200 generic coilover kit or $40 worth of split collars. I'd bet the split collars would actually take less work to fit and still provide the better end result. Datsun510Purist6spdV8
Use the collar as a perch? What about the hat? What about when you want to raise the suspension? Quote Link to comment
graveltrapp
Buy the cheapest ebay coilover set, either use the threaded collars and or sell 2 of the 4 you get on Craig's list. Keep the springs as they are all over sprung for small light engines and as mentioned above use your profits from the threaded sleeves to buy the split collars flatly mentioned above. You will eventually want to cut down the strut tubes if you decide to go more than a few inches. Do a search as this topic has been beat into the dead horse that is six feet in the ground and rotting. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Use the collar as a perch? What about the hat? What about when you want to raise the suspension? Yes. As a perch. Keep stock top hat or buy camber plates from whomever you want. Raise suspension? Move collar. Lower it? Same thing. Toss the idea of threader collars. How many times do you really ever need to adjust height? Once. Use the money you're going to save on something that will further increase performance. Or throw away $200. Your call. datzenmike
Pair of 2" split collars from Fastenal... $25 While apart I .... drained the watery damper fluid and refilled the struts with 20W motorcycle fork oil to firm up the action.... $17 trimmed the stock spring 1 1/2 coils to raise the spring rate to 150 lb/in &stock 710 is about 100 lb/in Under $50 On my other 710 I used ATF instead so was cheaper but the fluid is about 7-12W for a softer ride From this... To this... Quote Link to comment
