Stock engine to fit a 610

Recommended Posts

I didn't do right storing our 610 for 16 years. Two cylinders are WAY down on compression. I am not in the position to take apart the engine and do a rebuild. I have done that in the past, but now I don't have the tools and I am not up for that kind of project. Does anyone have a stock Datson engine that could go into the 610? I have seen many folks put hod rod (dual cam, etc.) engines in their cars and I wondered if anyone has an old stock engine (that runs) that they don't need and are willing to sell it.

ps, Is it practical to think of putting in an automatic trans in place of the original sloppy shifting stick?

Thanks,

Donald

This is a long shot.

Try putting some ATF in the spark plug holes.  Turn it over with the plugs out, put more in.    Let it sit for a while, over night, a few days, or a week   Check compression again.

If you can get it to fire and run, run it, check compression again.

Engines that sit for a long time sometimes have the piston rings get stuck in the pistons.  The ATF helps loosen them.

Adjusting the valves might get the compression back, also.
